TPS -Does it affect performance

well I put this in Gneral rotary tech before and got no answers so hopefully I can leave it to you guys here - I would really like to know

situation - 93 fd new rebuild - street port/3mm/ceramic coating; installed PFC - the engine kept surging - did not do this before rebuild

- adjusted my TPS and tried to get to the voltage numbers to match as per the forum numbers and FSM but unable to get to them,

so I started the car and adjusted the tps while running - I got the car to stop surging - cars running great now but the questions is??? does the tps affect my performance because it is not at the ideal position?

thanks

I was wondering this aswell, as I cant get the same numbers as before. But the car drives fine if left in the original position.

My Idle is at 2K since I dont want it to cut out at junctions, so the ecu thinks I have my foot on the throttle.

well my car idles fine at 1100rpm - i think its lower then what my tach says as they are aftermarket guage faces placed in the dash- I have this suspicion b/c my PFC commander says one thing and the tach and speedo another? going by pfc now though

anybody can confirm if tps does affect performance???

It helps the ECU determine how much fuel is needed at any given time... if it is improperly set, the ECU could think that the throttle is partially open when it is really at full throttle and vise versa

does the ecu not look at the map sensor first for load and then throttle MOVEMENT for fuel enrichment?? You can have the throttle at half and only produce 5 psi boost at 3K or 10psi at half throttle at 6k. See where I am comming from.

theres a chart in the service highlights book, the ecu uses the narrow range tps for the "idle zone" which is 0-1500rpms, and up to 27% throttle. over that its being used for the metering pump, air control valve, and decel fuel cuts.
