Superstreet - rotary .... most hp n/a
 

Has anyone seen the Rotary issue on superstreet, with the rx-8 and 3rd gen rx-7 on the front cover? Well it tells you how to get the most power out of your engine on 2nd and 3rd gen, up to 200hp for the 145hp 88 n/a motor with simple mods. It shows a little chart on the page and a list of the mods but i cant seem to find the issue at stores anymore. If you know what they are can you tell me please :) thanks

...wait, you expect people to admit they read ss on THIS forum? well ill admit it, and i have that issue. for the n/a all they say is to carbeurate it and there is barely 3 sentences for the n/a fc. all the info is for the turbo cars and those RXs on the front are WEAK, worst cover cars EVER! all show and they got NAWS!

Those R-Magic cars on the cover are sweet.

There are absolutly no simple mods to get to 200 HP on a non turbo 13B, unless you are talking radical street/ bridge porting or nitrous.

They're talking flywheel power ...

I glanced through the issue at the shop the other day... I didn't read carefully, but I noticed with the TII info they were listing that the "upgrade" paths were vastly oversimplified, and the resulting numbers seemed very high.

I'll have to re-read it carefully tonight, but I don't think they included some of the necessary "reliablity" mods to ensure the cars were safe at these power levels.

Especially coming from a source like Super Street, hopefully everyone who reads this will take the info with a grain of salt and do more research.

Doesn't Super Street dedicate at least one issue a year to rotary engines?

Yes i have the 1996 issue i believe, but doesnt really do much.

Hm. When did "street port" suddenly become a minor mod? I guess I'm just silly, thinking that anything involving completely tearing the engine apart is a "major mod."

If they carbed the engine they must be talking about fuel preesure? That is what Holleys need 6 psi.

Its not 6psi fuel line....Its 6psi fuel pump.

Over 200hp:
Change to 4 port
turbo engine side housings
Street or Brige port

Maybe they mean -6 A/N steel braided line???And I would think that adding a Haltech would be "more" minor then street porting a motor

SS has no idea what they're talking about. BASTARD's post on the -6 line may be correct.

Porting is a fairly simple mod. Yank the engine, port it, clean up the pieces, throw it back together. Done in a weekend, with "weekend" understood to mean taking into account sleeping in and hanging out with friends after it gets dark and the mosquitoes won't leave you alone.

TUNING is where you spend all your time.

That magazine is a fine example of lowest-common-denominator journalism. They know the bulk of their market is young people with stars in their eyes and no patience, so they give them what they want - the its-so-easy horsepower plan. Sure, just streetport it. They don't mention the engine hoist, the garage, the full set of metric tools, the air compressor, the parts cleaner, the long hours of wrenching, the parts cost of a rebuild kit, the dangerous-to-irons die grinder and the art of porting, the careful and patient attention to details in re-assembly,and...

TUNING TUNING TUNING!

You dont have to use turbo housings. Just change intake and remove everything for the sixth ports. I have seen it work this way. So now you can use those turbo housings for a turbo conversion.

The easiest "mod" would have to be nos, headers, catback, piggy back fuel computer, injectors and a wing. The wing is the thing that makes the most whore's power...


yanking the motor and porting it is not considered an "easy" mod...even if you can do it in a day
