Series 2 turbocharged Rx-8 for Sema

2 Attachment(s)
If you're going to SEMA or Sevenstock this week you can check out this Series2 Rx-8 that we helped out with. It was an immense amount of work to do within 3 weeks between lucky7racing and us. Quick run down on the performance related parts;

Stock block Series 2 Renesis with just our 10mm stud kit
ACT clutch
ID1750X injectors
Dual walbro 450lph fuel pumps staged by ecu inside an SP800 surge tank, turbosmart FPR, OEM rails with 6AN fittings brazed on
Our EFR 9174 IWG Rx8 turbo system
Adaptronic M2000 modular ecu
IGN1A coils
E85

It made 408rwhp/308rwtq which I tuned remotely in under 2 hours. We've got a good base map, and wiring diagrams for anyone looking to do similar. ECU will run other engines in this configuration with some slight tweaks too( like REW, 20B, etc). Might shoot for 500rwhp after SEMA. Renesis motors do take a lot more time to tune properly.

I'm not going to SEMA but that's very impressive. Its really all stock porting?? What would you expect reliability would be like on that build?

Well maybe you’ll prove me wrong, but I can’t see that big turbo making any sense on a Renesis. I suppose you must be trying to keep it operating in the most efficient part of the map to avoid the “boom goes the Renesis dynamite”, but that thing has to be like Granny Hawkins hiking up Mount Everest on spool up. Somebody else claimed that was @ 19 psig with full spool not until 6000? :sadpanda:

The end goal is 500rwhp, and at the time only the 9174 units were in stock. I would definitely prefer the 8374. It wasn't too laggy, it's better to look at the torque curve than the boost pressure. I know once it hit 5k rpms it snapped pretty fast to redline. What was nice is the back pressure was 1:1 for most of the pull( logged inside ECU). Im not sure the apv ports were coming on at the right time either, I was only able to check their functionality before sema. This makes a huge difference in peak rwhp in my experience ( about 18 percent above 7200rpms). Keep in mind the car needs more time on the dyno.

Yes that block is completely stock outside of our stud kit. It now has a bridgeport done by lucky7 and Goopy drop in apex seals. We just fired that engine off last Friday. These dyno runs were done a few weeks ago. We are also going to install the dbw module as the BP appears to have a lower idle vacuum and while it idles ok, it would be better with a 1000plus rpm idle ve the 800ish OEM idle.

When it comes to a high rev motor like the renesis with its 9,000rpm redline you really have the ability to choose your powerband.

When you chose a big turbo that compliments the high rpm power you do have lag, but one thing you can gain is torque.
What? Torque? Nope, not low rpm torque; but actual torque at the wheels through torque multiplication through the gearing and rpms..

Torque doesn't mean low rpm power as we all commonly use the term:lol:

I can see an application for a 400rwhp rotary using EFR 7163, 7670, 8374, twin 7163 and 9180 turbos (and most hybrids thereof).

That’s too bad; doomed to poor performance if not failure for sure now ...

A decent attempt at some power from the Renesis . I applaud the effort but agree mostly with what Team is saying . When you try for 500 ..... have a few bowls ready to catch the broken bits .

Not really ..... the Renesis hates high rpm when boosted to these levels . Note how the torque reaches peak around 6000 then just drops away from there . If the APVs were closed that would explain that , but If that was the case,I think the reduced flow could also have saved the engine from going boom .

The car looked excellent today out at Toyo! <3 Great work guys!

I am sure it will fail just like every other claimed 400WHP RX-8 they have had a part in. They can claim what they want but it's nonsense.
