rx8 apex seals in a reman rew? interesting find

last week 2 piece 2mm seals were found after tearing down a new reman for porting.... anyone know if there was any word on them using these or did mazda make a change i am unaware of? is this how they are all going to come from now on?

they are not rx8 seals they are the new 2 peice seals for the rx7.

They have been used in a few engine builds over here in the UK without any problems.

They appear to be the same material as the new RX-8 seals. This is going on information sourced from Aus.

the rx-8 seals are much shorter (4mm?) and I am not sure if they can be used in a regular 13B.

Sorry I sort of posted my last post without clearing something up.

The RX-8 seals cannot be used in a 13B engine, but Mazda have released new 2 piece 2mm seals that appear to be made of the same material as those from the RX-8's engine.

Part #'s and how much?

MikeLMR 08-11-03 06:58 AM

same part numbers as the old seals apparently. The new seals superseed the old ones according to another recent thread in which Mazdatrix posted (should be about 1 page down from this thread IIRC

yup the new seals supercede the old seals..... i know a few race engines that are using them with great results already!

Whats so good about the new seals? Material, size, weight?

MikeLMR 08-12-03 06:25 AM

size will be roughly the same as they are a direct replacement. I would guess they have changed the material for the better. (and maybee a few subtle design improvements)

I have these new seals and ran a little lean on the dyno at 6k with no damage done...no pinging however.

I wonder if they have a 3mm derivative of that. I'll be rebuilding my engine with previously-cut 3mm rotors...

mazda has been making a 3mm 2 piece for years

Good. :D I wasn't sure if they still made the GSL-SE seals or not.

they won't have the same coating or material as the renesis seal. just get 2mm rotors. they are better anyway :)
