RX-8 13BT/REW swap
After looking at the limited options of the RX-8 (for the moment), I was wondering if swapping the 6-port RENESIS for a 13B-REW, or a 13BT would be a viable solution for my thirst for forced induction. With so much aftermarket support, the idea seems so fiendishly simple (not really), and clever. Aready with a weak transmission, I was thinking about swapping it for a TII 5-speed. I don't care if I lose a gear, it's much stronger. If I'm going as far as swapping for a TII tranny, should I take the easy way out get an engine that is already turbocharged? The RENESIS engine isn't bad; a 13BT/REW swap would be an afterthought. What do you guys think?

I think your crazy. I'd sell the 8 and get a nice T2 and put in 20k worth of mods into it.

I say go for it. Its your car, coin etc...do what you want. But I know I would like to see that happen. You have the right concept, the looks and somewhat comfort of the 8 with the speed to go with it.

Actually, a TII swap may not be necessary. There is a rumor going around that Mazda is going to use a stronger 6-speed manual for the 2006+ RX-8. Could there be a power increase in store?
I also didn't mention Acosta Racing managed to shoehorn a 20B into an RX-8. It sports a claimed 900 hp, but I have yet to see any hard numbers. Like I said, it's an afterthought. Since the RENESIS' ports are already larger than any 13BT/REW, I might be able to bridge port the engine. Also, I could also open the tertiary ports at full boost. Does anyone know the effect of having a peripheral port intake and a side-exit exhaust? |
that would be interesting..... should be torque at least

20B + RX-8 = Perfect.

I didn't have a chance to post the webpage for Acosta Motorsports' 20B RX-8. I think it's a cool project, if not little unrealistic for people who don't have shitloads of time, and money.
