REW/MSP Hybrid by Mazdatrix
Cool article I found when searching to see if anyone had put REW housings between MSP irons. Turns out Mazdatrix has. IDK if this is old news or not but I thought it was cool.

Thats a pretty neat idea, i wonder what the dyno results were?

Bottom of the last page of the article claims 600hp at 30 psi but no dyno graph. It would be nice to see the power curve. Maybe an email to mazdatrix will get them to volunteer their secrets.

Mazda did change that "back" for the Renesis... I wonder if they changed the apex seals to a thicker one, a lot of speculation that the 1mm seals don't like to pass over the peripheral exhaust port.

They did not, but I had the Same idea. I was looking into the different kinds of porting and I wondered why no one used an exhaust P port housing with a P port intake and renesis irons. So I googled and found the article. I wonder how high the idle would be with that much intake.

Sure, but it doesn't have the MSP ports. I imagine it would make quite a difference. Though idk. I've never had even a P port motor.

I will be bulding a 13B PP with rx8 rotor and stock rx8 height ceramics.. PP inlet and rx8 steel seals look like a bad idea at 10k rpm but one cant know without triyng =)

i'm thinking you can manage the apex heat with tuning, but you can't tune the extra weight out of rx7 apex seals, so in theory the lighter seals will be better... i'm going the same, but going to be able to turn off intake or exhaust ports and run the low down stock port torq from 2000-4500, then open the pports there, alot of hate on another thread in the rx8 forum talking about this. i'm probably two years from starting the motor, but i know how to make peri ports with alum tube for the intake, or stainless steel tube for the exhaust. i have made them. like 7 of them on practice housings.
if someone wants to do this, use the RX8 housings and them mod them for peri intake/exhaust. this is because only the msp housing have oil squirters on the side seals, if you skip this you must premix or you will cook the side seals. |
did you succesfully made peri exh with stainless tube? Nice. do you have more info about this? Biggest concern for me would be how to seal the water on the section where the stainless meets the alu housings outwards from the engine. I guess the tube must be free there to expand in order that it does not crack at where its welded to the iron insert..?

for exhuast ports im thinking of doing an inner steel tube on top of the outer aluminum tube. i have a semi pp thats going to be built first. hopefully this can all go down this summer. i've toyed with having the valve inside the rotor housing.. depends if shutting of the exhaust ports with wastegates creates an issue and will need further resolve. i plan to have 2 38mm wastegaters in the header. |
My engine has exhaust ports like this. The outside part near the exhaust flange is a pressfit, and the tube is welded to the inner steel liner. Havent had any problems with it yet, although my engine has only run for 10 hours or so.
