There was an ignition counterpart to the safc, I believe it was called the itc or sitc. Its been a while though, so I cant really be of any more help than that.

I still think youre better off with a standalone though.

Piggyback spark control

Hi. Is there such a thing as an SAFC type device to correct the ignition curve of a stock ECU (S4 FC NA)? I've looked at some of the MSD ignition systems and am not sure how they work. Anyone got any info or a link to an aftermarket ignition faq? I'm mainly looking at controlling my ignition timing dependent on rpm and manifold pressure.

Thanks in advance.

So a search for "apec itc" - there are vendors who still sell this unit.

Maybe I'll just get a standalone. I don't know much about them or their features, so I'll start looking them up. I do know that the megasquirt doesn't control spark, hence my curiosity about aftermarket ignition systems like crank fire. They are briefly discussed in _RX7 performance handbook_, but that book is getting outdated.

Unfortunately I don't have a couple grand to throw into my upcoming boost project . . I might have to rig something up or just buy someone's TII ecu.

Oh yeah I almost forgot . . when finding optimum timing on the dyno, do u first set the air fuel ratio to the target value and then play with timing until maximum torque is reached, and then back off slightly? That would be my uneducated strategy.

*edit* I found some info on the apexi s-itc and it looks like the safc of ignition timing. It's perfect. I can't believe how good my SAFC is for tuning the car . . so easy and so much control, and to think that I could do the same with the timing, oh yeah! Now to find one somewhere 4 sale . .

Roger Enns is running EDIS code on his MS, and I will be running it soon. Full fuel and spark control from the MS.

That's great. The whole MS kit for the ecu and hand control is like two hundred bux . . I could deal with some soldering.
