PHE Apex Seals

I just ordered a full set of 2mm Hurley race seals for the half bridge I am putting together , I then came across the MAZDACOMP site and their PHE seals, anyone using them , how good are they and how do the compare to the HURLEYS , also can these seals be used with the HURLEY dual springs ?

Go with NB seals.... they are the best...

What makes NB seals the best, they were the ones in the Scoot FD right? what type of material are they made out of?

soul assassin 08-22-02 02:03 AM

what the hell are NB? i use stock mazda seals never had a problem with em.

user 84205 08-22-02 03:55 AM

Opiston, Soul,
Yes they are the same ones from the Scoot FD. They have a good reputation and can hold a shite load of boost without shorting the life of the engine, they can hold like 2.5 bar I believe. I really dont know the material though, maybe ceramic..

Stock ones are good to go unless you want to go over 1.2 boost...

saying apex seals are good for X psi boost is like asking how long a piece of string is. its just F@#KING WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!

user 84205 08-22-02 05:45 AM

Im failing to make the connection...

Thats what SCOOT says, ALSO thats what MAZDA says, well my buddy at mazda says...

Ok Jason where can you tell me?

sokudo 08-22-02 06:41 AM

me and soul are pushing 1.6 boost on factory mazda seals

87GTR 08-22-02 06:44 AM

im going to be pushing 16. 1.8 on the factory seals too

soul assassin 08-22-02 06:44 AM

ceramic seals are super expensive also, hold a shit load of boost but if you snap one kis your rotors, housings and sidplates and turbine good bye if it gets in there. thats the only drawback they are so hard they will fuck some shit up if they break, tougher apex seals only are as good as the tuner crappy tuner you can use titanium seals they will still break

user 84205 08-22-02 06:59 AM

true true......

es 08-22-02 07:23 AM

2.25 bar and a 50 shot on stock Mazda Apex seals, without any problems...

Marcel Burkett 08-22-02 07:25 PM

SOOOO............. what you'll think about the PHE seals sold by MAZDACOMP versus the HURLEYS (original question ) ?.

HWO 08-23-02 04:55 AM

there are drag cars in aussie pushing 30-40PSI on stock seals............. its all in the tuning

Actually stock ones can support up to 30 lbs of boost and Nos without problems. Ray Lochead uses them in his race car. So does Demetrios. They seal better and make more power.

I am sorry Canman. The stock 2mm seal is fine for high boost applications. If you run high boost on a 13b-rew you must do a low compression rotor or shave the rotor. The 2mm stock seal is fine the only thing that gives way under time is the springs. I have seen cars do 30psi on stock 2mm seals and they do just fine. It comes down to who built the car and tuned it.

My take on it

36lbs of boost 205Nitrous oxide shot making 700RWHP on a 13B Fd engine on a Mazda factory stock apex seals Amen!!!!! Stock apex seals properly tuned = a happy engine..by the way this engine is constantly abused or better yet drag raced very hard, every other weekend. the car was the 2001 pro comp. class points champion and this year the car is in second place in points with the NOPI drag racing series.. car runs 8.2 @165mph all metal ,weight requirement is 2200lbs.. I repeat stock apex seals...

i just went to the mazdacomp site, those things are just straight butter. they're machined from billet nodular steel. i'd like to know what the nb seals are made of to compare. can anyone get the phe mazdacomp seals for a better price than $500? that's a lot of cash for 12 small strips of steel. i need these quick as i am in the middle of a rebuild.

as for the stock apex seals being good for a lot of hp, i see what you guys are saying, but you have to understand not everyone can have perfect tuning all the time. it's good to have a safeguard against detonation just in case. it's like saying if you tune a turbo piston engine right there's no point in upgrading to forged pistons and rods. if this is indeed a stronger apex seal (although that's still to be decided) then i want it.
