i'm in an argument with my budy, on what is better a automatic or a manual tranny on the strip. i say manual is better. someone prove him wrong please. for the love of god please

I second that, manual all the way, auto can work on small tire cars with allot of power BUT add a adjustible clutch on a manual tranny, the auto tranny has no chance.....

It will either be a Liberty or a GForce both of which are manual transmissions. Transmission choice has a lot to do with what you want from your car. Many factors can come into play where an automatic will be better than a manual and vise versa. Personally for me I like manual transmissions "Real Men Bang Gears":lol:

I used to work for Victory One Performance which makes valvetrain parts for NHRA dragsters. The owner has been drag racing all his life I talked to him about this and he said any competative drag racing team will use an automatic. Properly built you can load the drivetrain at peak RPM and launch the car without risk of shocking the the drivetrain, you eliminate most of the driver error, it shifts faster, and can be tuned to shift at precise rpms much more accuratly than what a driver can do with a shift light. The torque converter will also multiply torque near it's stall speed by around 2-2.2 times, so you can tune the stall speed in to help the torque after a shift. He went on and on about it several times while I worked there, several people I worked with at Evernham also agreed. For the strip an automatic is the best way to go, for road coarse racing manual is the best, unless the automatic has quick shift capability like what is used in rally car racing.

Isn't a Lenko trans a planetary like the automatics but the driver manually engages the bands? 1 lever for each drum?
