Muffler internals
After checking the cost of new tailpipes I've decided to get the internals of my JASMA exhaust rebuilt by a friend who runs a precision welding company.
We opened it up a few days ago and found what was left of the internal perferated pipe was about an inch in diameter, despite the pipes to and from the silencer being about 3 inches. Is it this small to reduce noise, or is the outside 3 inches because it helps sell the exhaust? I've searched around but can't really find anything specific on building a silencer for a rotary engine. I understand they get very hot and it's hard to make them quiet. Current plan is to stick in a 3inch diameter perforated stainless pipe and pack it with stainless wool. Anyone any advice? Thanks! |
Hi!
Your packing the silincer the right way. With stainless wool it will last, unlike Fibreglass wool. The 1 " Perforated pipe is probably for quieting it down, but it will restrict it too much. As you know,Rotaries hate backpressure. The problem is normally getting them quiet enough. Hope this helps ? Karis:) |
Thanks for the advice.
I probably should have mentioned that it's a third gen twin turbo running a little extra boost. Jap model with no pre-cat and standard main cat. |
A few post back I post a dieagram on a muffler that I'm useing and it seems to be doing a realy good job simply to build ane tune able

I searched your previous posts for this and all I found was something from 2003 that had a link that was dead. Could you repost this diagram please?
