The most hp out of an N/A series 4 without PP?

I have an 87 series 4 that ive gutted for weight and customization. Ive recently pulled the engine i have rebuilt 3 so far and still feel new but comfortable in my abilities. Iam planning to stay N/A but would like to but a lil step in this engine. Anyone have a good idea on how to get the most out and about how much you can get with out PPing? I would like to know what parts, porting, fuel management, ignition and so forth that i would need to reach my goal. looking to make between 250-300 if possible. Thanks in advance.

since you said "gutted for weight and customization," i'll assume this is not transportation. in that case, get some T2 side housings and go with a bridgey. i'm not sure how far you're willing to go with a parts search, but if you can score some S5 N/A rotors, then all you need to do is spec everything, do the durability mods (clearancing, oil supply and balancing) and get a good EMS. you should be good to go (not sure on the power figures though). if i recall, Ito runs something like 310 on a combination of bridge and peripheral, so you'll probably make it to the mid-200 HP range with good tuning.

Why do a bridge when you can do this?

That car now is fuel injected and runs on Motec. I dont know the exact current HP output but I know it is well within the range you are looking at.

Yup, this car is making atleast 290 at the wheels. We can build these motors considering I was Paul's engine builder....In fact I helped build the very engine shown in the pictures on his site.

... I'm going to have to be skeptical here. No way is that thing making 290 to the wheels with anything approaching EProd legal induction.

this is gonna be a good one

yep ... i'm a bit skeptical, too, which is why i asked for clarification. i mean the porting looks awesome. the intake looks awesome. however, it just seems like a bit much for what amounts to a streetport, unless i missed something .... and yes, i realize everything is lightened and everything is balanced, but still ....

i'm not saying anyone is being deliberately deceitful, but perhaps there's some miscommunication along the chain.

Lets just call it "overly ambitious" figures. Curious of the redline and were torque lies in the powerband.

The car has a completely new intake setup now since its fuel injected, also a new exhaust system, pretty quiet too! Went to the dyno a couple weeks ago and I have personally seen the sheets and the repeatability of the numbers. However, I am not sure if paul or the owner wants to fully disclose the specifics of the numbers just yet. Lets just say I was just as skeptical about them when I first heard as everyone else here...

Motor was taken up to 9500 on the dyno. Probably take it up to 10k next dyno session.

Thats a real nice n/a setup....

Well... note I said "prod legal". The motor, as of being posted on Yaw's site, was prod legal if it was running the correct chokes. EProd induction requires either a 2-barrel with restricted chokes (39mm for FBs, 42mm for FCs off the top of my head, give or take a mm or two) or the stock, same-external-dimensions-as-stock EFI intake manifolds. Highest HP I've heard of (from a rotary in Prod) is right around 220 at the rear wheels. Topping a Nationals level motor by 70hp... yeaaaaah.

Now, unrestricted induction is an entirely different matter. I have to admit to being curious what a fullbore streetport will do, so I'm throwing together something akin to those end irons (except smoothed with Devcon; another thing I'm pretty sure is illegal in Prod) and with a 12A center iron.

So whats the deal is this for real or what? THey never posted any new updates on the "yaw" website. ????

Richter12x2 08-24-07 11:16 AM

We've got a car that races autocross around here with a ported 13b, balanced and open exhaust and spinning 11 grand. He said he sees about 220hp. :P

Updates are currently being worked on including a couple articles regarding fuel injection and our new fuel injector dynamics service which can be seen here: http://www.yawpower.com/injectordynamics.html

We've been putting new vinyl on the car so were waiting till that was all finished up before taking any new pics.
