Made 341rwhp @ 12.5lbs. of Boost!!
Hey guys. KDR dyno tuned me last Friday. I was pleased considering the low boost(12.5lbs) Im going back up when its not as hot to tune for 17lbs of boost. Can't wait. Dave seems to think I may be able to come close to 400rwhp which Im not sure if many people have done with the stock twins.

damn!!!
nice numbers!! |
I have one question for you guys. If Im going to be running 17lbs of boost dyno tuning, Do I have to run race gas even if I have the fuel system to support it?
TIA, Ernie |

Thanks Ken. I'll probably bring 5gal. of Cam 2 with me.

Hey Gordon.......Im going to MADS, but only on Sunday to watch.
I have the same hurley seals as you do. BTW.......Tonight was a great night for me. I finally broke in the 11's. I'll post the slip. I went 11.74 @116.5mph and backed it up with a 11.82 @ 117.3mph!! |
Hey Ernie, I'm going to MADS too. I don't know yet if I'll be there on Sat. or Sun. but I'd like to try to meet up with you to talk about your setup. I'm thinking about switching from the PMS to the PFC computer, and it would be really nice to get some input on it and some other things.

Wow Ernie, nice times and numbers. What boost were you running still 12.5? My car is still up at Dave's getting the engine installed. I went with the 2mm Hurleys also. I going to run my car for a while at 12lbs to break the engine in. I'm hoping I can dyno in the same general area you did. There's a guy on here - Goodfellas or something - that dynoed at over 320 rwhp with a KDR streetport, cb, intake, dp, power FC, and flywheel. Not bad with stock cat and ic. At 16lbs you could nail a 11.1! Good luck.

For those of you guys boosting more than 13lbs, don't you get problems w/ fuel cut? Any of you guys use a fcd?
|
Not if your using some sort of ecu upgrade like the Power FC, Haltech, Pettit chip, M2 chip.
|
I'm using the EFI unit and I have fuel cut problems. Do you think the problem is something other than the piggy back system?

I might be wrong but I believe the problem is with a piggy back you still using the bone stock computer with all of its bugs and headaches like fuel cut. You need to get either a upgraded ecu like Pettits or a full computer like the Power FC. |
Originally posted by ErnieT Not if your using some sort of ecu upgrade like the Power FC, Haltech, Pettit chip, M2 chip. You are really pushing it with those stock turbos if you go over 14psi. The stock turbo in the older 7s are bigger and their limit is 14psi before the oil seals start to lose their strength. With the even smaller turbos in the newer 7s, those seals will probably let loose oil very quickly. Then they will continue to lose their grasp even at lower boost pressures. I'd keep the stock turbos at no more than 14psi. -M |
I heard many people say that the stock turbos are only good up to 15lbs. I have news for all the hearsay, its just that hearsay. I know T&R racing push out our turbos to almost 19lbs of boost. Im not saying its good for the turbos, but either is drag racing. Lets face it, you have to "pay to play".:bigthumb:
I know for a fact that Anthony from T&R racing has run his stock turbos to 18lbs and ran 11.1 so, it can be done, but as with anything else I realize over time it will take its toll on the turbos. But I also plan on going single next year so its not that much of an issue. |
I just talked to the ever-so-friendly tech rep from Mazdatrix. What's with their attitude? (they always seem so annoyed when you ask questions.) anyways, Mazdatrix said it's a "horrible idea" to run any type of leaded gas, including cam 2, since it's bad on the oxygen sensor. Does anyone agree to this? I hear of drag racers using cam 2 on FD's all the time, provided there is no catalytic converter. Are there UNLEADED gas that has more than 100 octane?
|
Mazdatrix doesn't drag race, so I wouldn't ask them anything about it. Try Ray Locheed or Ari from RX7.com. Leaded race gas is fine. Yes, it coats the o2 sensor and you'll have to replace it over time, but I'd rather spend 30 bucks rather than $4000 for a new engine.
|
I'm pretty sure Mazdatrix drag races...check their website.

I wouldnt worry about it unless you were running race fuel all the time. Running it every now and then at the track and dyno should be fine. I'f your mixing with every tank and running it on the street you might see a prob but just like someone else mentioned, its not a very expensive part to replace. Just check it every now and then to see if its coated. |
Hey, I had a question for you guys, my 94 rx7 put down 336hp &272 ft lbs of torque. I have full exhaust, greddy pullys and a xs engeneering computer at .7 bar of boost, is this good compared to your numbers?

Damn good numbers!:D
|
You're making those numbers with those few mods at only 10.5 lbs of boost???? You have to have more mods - if not, you have a "one" of those FDs. Nice numbers
