Looking for Scatter Shield
Does anyone know where to get a scatter shield for 1st Gen?
I saw one at Mazdadragracing for $300 plus is that the only place? |
how fast are u running?
If u are drag racing, according to the NHRA rules u dont need a scatter shield unless your running good into the 11. seconds. But most of this shields are homemade, I bought mine from a speed shop in Puerto Rico. Race Tech Speed Shop. I paid 175.oo and it's 1/4 of an inch thick which is what NHRA wants.

Yes that is excatly it, 1/4" thick 360 deg. around the tranny.

Thats it... I wish I could find one for that. I am drag racing and thought you need a scatter shield for 11.99 and faster. Also a drive line loop.
Thanks for the reply. |

There are some tracks especially down here that require a scatter shield on a rotary even if doesn't run quicker than 11.99! For them as long as it don't look stock any more then you're required to have one!:)

So does anyone know where to get one for a deal? 13BAce can you make me one? I am still in the hunt, seems like the distributor that was selling them for $3 bills was not interested in a sale. Anyways anyone else have any ideas? I am in the 13's now and hope to get it lower than that.

The search goes on. Peejay you give me a chill down my spine. Thats why!

Originally posted by 13BAce Yeah, I know that's why they require that stuff, but 11.99 isn't really TOO fast nowadays.;) What I'm saying is, to run that fast you need a TON of power and a hard launch, or a soft launch and two tons of power, that's an awful lot of force on a little bitty clutch... I have a recurring nightmare of a clutch explosion, it's not pretty, fortunately I've been lucky so far but you bet next year I'll have a scattershield / driveshaft loops installed! |

Hey randy I have a summit racing magazine here that has a scatter shield in it for $80. It is made out of like a nylon cloth. It is certified and looks good. it just belts around your trans. and it is supposed to have these special fibers that wont break etc. sound inexpensive and somewhat safe. Plus when as the last time any of us rotary guys blew a trans??? can't remember... Any ways if you want to look at that or order it out of my book PM me and I could stop by and show it to you.

I wonder if the Nylon cloth would try to retain more heat. Hate to add more stress to the tranny. hmm......

Well the search goes on. I did see that blanket in the Summit Racing catalog. Looks like it would work but I also had the question of how much heat would be held in. But the one above it looked pretty good, too bad it was for a Mopower. All it takes is one grenade before everyone has a scatter shield. I think I would rather take my chances with than without.

The Blankets are actually not legal for a rotary powered vechicle because there are none made to SFI spec 6.1 or higher. All of the blankets are 4.5 spec only. You might get away with the blanket and a lot of officials at the track do let them slide by but it's not legal.

Its kevlar they use in Blalistic blankets. Same thing used in bullet proof vests. Very good at distrubuting a impact across a large surface preventing shrapna from percing though. I know I need one, but I am broke right now, even $80 is too much so I will just keep it under 8500rpm for now. Also shift with care...
