launching

So how are most of you guys launching at the drags? Are you hitting the rev limiter and then just letting the clutch pop? Is there a proper way to launch?
Also what do you recomend for drag radials on stock 3rd gen rims?

nitto drags work well with the stock rims.

I also use Nitto's although I have heard that BFG's are better.
I run my Nittos at around 15 PSI.
Heat em' up good. I have line locs.
I rev to about 5500 RPM and just dump it.

I've found that when I had my stock clutch in my 93 R1 I could dump the clutch around 5000-5500rpm or so and leave the line pretty smoothly. My 60 times were around 2.05-2.1. When I put in the ACT clutch it grabbed a little too good and would either let the tires spin or give me a little wheel hop. Now I slip the clutch a little on the launch, best '60 time so far is not really that good, 2.005 sec on Kuhmo V700 auto-x tires running 20-22psi. If I dump the clutch my '60 times were 2.1-2.15 sec, trap speeds were about 2-3 mph slower, ETs were about .3 sec slower.

My 87 TII also likes to have the clutch slipped, it helps eliminate wheel hop A LOT, also that car has a 17lb flywheel instead of the stock 28lb unit.

If you care much about your car I wouldn't recommend holding it on the rev limiter and dumping the clutch, especially with any type of sticky rubber, you'll break something for sure.

Some of you need some drag school lessons...JK...
Anyhoo, get BFG's. I've had both and the Nittos suck ass. The BFG's are great for the track and "dry" weather. I averaged 1.69 60' with them lauching at 5800, riding the clutch just a tad.
