When I installed my R500 , I had 4 TII coils , the car started and idled for about 10 seconds then stalled . There was current leaking from all 4 coils , one of them was even leaking oil , these coils seemed fine with the MSD boxes ! , I replaced them with 4 new MSD coils , 2 HVC's on the leading and 2 Blaster SS on the trailing , no problems so far . to switch the R500's output from low to high , a wire needs to be grounded , I have it set up where the ECU does this automatically , at the same time it starts water injection (it switches a relay to open an isolation solenoid) .

there's lots of options. i am targeting 630 rwhp w my setup and have tuned up to the point where i am above 500 so far...

my ignition is has not been an issue. i run about 30% methanol and pump 93 octane and when i intially started tuning i was at 9.0 AFR around 15 psi and the motor ran without misfire.

here's what i run and why:

if you go to the Summit catalog you can get comparative figures for amp output. you will find that the Jacobs 3000 specs out best. the second really neat feature is that is only goes to full output as it senses acceleration so it doesn't fry your plugs. i have 3000 miles on it and have found my plugs look good.

i run two FC3000 amps. one for each leading sparkplug. the amps are in the storage bin driver's side.

go back to the Summit catalog and check out coils specs. you will then want the MSD #8253 coil. one each for each leading plug.

my two coils sit on the driver's side frame rail and have 6 inch MSD 8.5 Superconductor wires.

both amps are triggered from the lead wire out of the igniter. all wires are shielded.

i run stock ignition (other than plug wires) on the trailing plugs.

finally i run NGK 6725 10.5 plugs. given that my egts are no higher than 1200 degrees preturbo making over 500 rwhp i may eventually go to a warmer plug.

i really am happy w this ignition setup. it may be overkill and next year after i get tuned out i will probably run the system on one amp to see if there is a performance difference.

FWIW, the stock ignition works quite well to 400 rwhp.

I bought my M&W and coils direct from them. I'm also pretty sure M&W make the Autronic and MoTEC, as they list them as customers and all the specs are quite close.

i use aem twin fire black box
work very well for me
idle raise over 200 rpm after the box is in..
it's burn the fuel more complete i guess.
no problem yet.

Yeah, I know of a couple people running that box without problem, but then again I know many others, myself included that have had them fry.
