All I know is that Ari's car broke his previous record on drag radials that day with a 10.07 pass, I think that's fuckin' awesone on drag radials, I believe that's the record for a RX7 on drag radials, mad props to the RX7.COM car, maybe by next year it'll be in the 9's on the same tires.

I think he's going to hit 9's before next year!:)
Probably at the IDRC finals in LA.

Does anyone know what changes he made to the car to make it drop to those times so quickly?

fastrotaries 11-17-01 03:47 AM

G-force tranny, but when i spoke to him he said he hadn't really driven on it and wasn't used to it at all..... it took him for ever to stage....he kept moving forward an inch at a time.

Aren't G-force transmissions not allowed in the street class?

BTW John Shepherd ran 9.898@147 on Toyo RA1 street radials with an OEM DSM transmission and won the street class.

The clutchless model that don't allow downshifting is the one that's not legal. There's one that you still have to use the clutch and still allows downshifting as long as you use the regular street/H-pattern shifter on it. That tranny is very similar and was based on the Doughnash/Richmond 5-speed I'm using in my car presently. Advantages over stock would be a much stronger tranny that would allow full powershifting in any gear without breakage. It's a 5-speed with 5th being 1:1 like 4th would be on the stock tranny so now you have 5 gears to accelerate instead of four.
With that tranny and the new rule change for next year that allows slicks in the street class Ari's going to be running mid to low 9's very easily!:)

How much does one of those trannies run? Isn't there someone on this forum that runs (or did run) a setup similar to that? John and Ari might be surprised at the next race, I heard that Marko (White Supra) might be at LACR. Should be a very interesting end to the season, and next year should be even better!

**edit** Does anyone have a link to Ari's car for sale on Ebay? I can't find it.

Doug Thomas 11-17-01 01:26 PM

Marko was at Long Horn Nationals and lost to Ari who cut a better light. Ari cut a better light against Shepherd, but lost to Shepherd. Lets just wait and see what going to happen in CA.

IDRC rules states that Non-OEM transmission replacements are subject to a 100-pound weight penalty. Was Ari accessed a weight penalty for the Doug Nash Transmission?

Next year should be interesting though. If Ari can run ET slicks, I guess that means that John Shepherd and Jeff Hill can run them as well. I wonder what type of '60 an AWD car can pull with them.

Even though I think in the street class ET Slicks should not be allowed. NHRA Imports does not allow ET Slicks in street class.

I know of a woman selling the trans (richmond 5spd) only for $1000, you will have to get the adapter plate and the longer imput shaft. Brand new gforce trannys are arounf $6000. A used Gforce is around $3500-$4500

crispeed 11-17-01 03:49 PM

That's what I don't like!
They listen to the complaints and accept the $$$$ of a few instead of the general masses and change the rules to suit. Anyhow it looks like next year all the real pro imports will be running at the NHRA.
As far as I care the street class should always be for a street car.
Aftermarket trannies, rears and all that high tech stuff should be left to the cars in the pro, outlaw and quick class. Why pretend to be a street car when you're not. Who drives a car daily with slicks and a pro-shifted tranny.
If they keep changing the rules in the street class soon the class would be only filled with high tech and expensive cars only a few minority can afford to race with. Probably they should form a new class so that these people could run each other in. It's kinda like the real street cars vs the pro street cars. Drag radials vs Et Streets. I'll bet that some of these so called 'street' cars have not actually even been down a public road in a long time accept on the back of a trailer and how much of them are actually licensed and insured!:)

If you want to run with the big boys you have to run with a clutchless!:)
The only way to tell if the Richmond is the Pro-shift version is to open it and check for the straight cut gears. I beleive both the street and race version had 4+1 stamped on the case.
If the tranny is the pro-shift version I would be interested!

Hey Greg!
The G-force can handle any size tire you run! What it can't handle is the wrong choice of clutch set-up. Trust me I know! I repair them for alot of friends!:) Plus there're tricks that G-force don't do to the trannies that most people have found out the hard way!:) BTW. What warranty is Mike giving you with the trans?

crispeed

Greg 11-17-01 04:41 PM

ohhhh, no warrantee eh? It looks like I will be hitting the HOT ROD classifieds up for a used one

crispeed 11-17-01 04:49 PM

you wouldnt happen to have the number handy would you?

LETHAL RX7 11-18-01 09:06 PM

they have about 25 roadrace trannies up at the long/gforce shop soem guy from south africa traded them in...im not sure what your goin for..but it sounds more liek the gforce is what you want the only thing is if you drive the car in the pits you have to keep on the drive side bc if they are not under a load they pop out of gear. They are a sweet sweet tranny though. The street richmonds and proshifted ones both say 4+1 on them bc we just pu ton in the 57 we built and it was a street box and we pulled it apart bc it was like hitting a brink wall pullin snd so we changed to the road race sliders... Maybe you or someone reading this is interested all of the 6 spds offered by richmond have the road race sliders so you can row them good.... hopefullyi could help some. peace

RX794 11-20-01 01:00 PM

Just to let you guys know, John Shepard is using a rally type box from a Evolution, and therefore doesn't have to clutch between shifts, Sean Glazer is also using this same type of transmission.

Greg 11-20-01 05:30 PM

Im gonna go woth the GF5R. Its only $4500 for the 13b setup with shifter.Ill just have to save for a few months
