how much oil on a completely dry fill-up?

I need to fill my project car with oil for the first time.

S5 13bT with matching oil cooler, plus about 10 feet of oil cooler line.

Im guessing the oil cooler holds quite a bit and would need to fill.

just trying to get an idea on how much I need to buy.

also, since this is a used engine, I was thinking of pumping some oil into the engine through the turbo oil supply on the front of the motor. This would get some fresh oil in the tubro bearings and help get oil pressure up fast on first startup.

sound good??

4.5 quarts in engine
1.5 quarts for oil cooler and lines
I'd get a quart on top of that just in case.
So that makes 7 quarts total?

The Pumping is a good idea..

You may wanna put oil in it.. then crank it over for 30-45 seconds with the coils disconnected to get some oil moving through the system before starting it up.
Also you will need to get it up to temp to go past the bypass in the cooler to filll It I believe.. (Cant remember been a while since I had a empty oil cooler LOL)
Keep checking the oil level when you first start it up I would say dont overfil it till you start cranking oil through the system.

thanks for the info,

had a typo in the first post, I planed to pump oil into the engine through the turbo supply, not through the turbo itself, thats not really neccessary.

priming the turbo lines is best.

for the engine, start with 4 quarts, then you want to crank it with the plug wires disconnected and fuel pump disabled, until you start getting movement on the pressure gauge. at that point, you then fill as needed.
