How important is port shape?

My question is if you use the racing beat porting templates it says you have to determine the shape beyond the scribed line. How important is it to get that perfect. How much better would the port be if you went with someone like Rob at Pineapple racing? Is this something that is best left up to the pros??

it takes practice and i think the important issue is to have both ports as much alike as possible. it's directly related to timing, so it depends on what your use of the engine is going to be.

This would be for my TII which is going to be for street use and occasional drag racing.

The shape beyond the scribed line refers to how you blend the runner into the port opening. It takes a little practice and experience to do it really well but common sense will net you some good results.

One thing I learned from experience is anything towards the E shaft and the motor is trash... :(
