HKS Syper Rotary Oil 10w40
 

Anyone ever heard of this? Is it any good?
Would it be an upgrade from the Castrol GTX 10w40 that i use at the minute?

I would not ever suggest the use of 10/w40 oil in dino piss though I still would not use it in syn.

What are the temperatures where you live? Try these oils, motul, elf, royal purple, redline, M1

i live in south england so a "little" colder than you lol
what oil would you recommend if no 10w40 - i thought that was ok?

i have the stock twin turbo engine and have been reading around the net.

from what i've read theres nothing wrong with Castrol GTX 10w40 but next oil change i will try to get a fully synthetic - these are the ones that have been recommended... i wish they would have been listed when i was looking - then it wouldnt have taken so long to read up on all this!

Mazda say only use mineral but the top recommended for RX7s are...

Silkolene Pro S 5w40
Motul 8100 5w30
Motul 30v 5w30
Mobil 10w40 (Synthetic) (these top 4 are recommended by an Oil company)

Castrol GTX Mag Tec (Synthetic) 10w40
Mobil1 15w50 (Japanese car mechanic preference)
Castrol GTX 10w40 Mineral (as recommended by WGT rx7 specialists)

thing is i dont really want to pay £10 A litre after getting £15 for 5 litres of Castrol GTX :S!

The base stock on 10w40 is low and it requires to many additives to reach a 40 protection rating while retaining a 10 weight. The more additives needed the more I take away from my base stock. A 10w40 sheers to greatly then brakes down and quits protecting. Theres a 30 sheer rating on a 10w40 so if Im using such a low base stock I would go with a closer sheer rating. 20w50 is ok because the base stock is much thicker. If you are to cold for 20 could you use 15w40? or 10w30?

I recommend following oils
Royal Purple, redline, M1, HP4, Motul, Elf, ams oil, and a few other short coming oil company's.

You say about using these:
20w50
15w40
10w30

But an oil company in England www.opieoils.co.uk recommend using
5w30 / 5w40 / 10w40 ?
i dont fully understand but what would be your reason for not using those?
obviously the 10w40 breaks down too quickly

I would not pay the ridiculous HKS prices for regular oil.

oh right... i didnt even know how much it was... but £50 for 5 litres of Motul/Silkolene seems expensive compared to £17 for Castrol GTX Mineral -
(the kind of oil that mazda recommend!?)

isnt there something priced halfway which is still better than GTX or is this a go all the way or not kinda thing?

I really do not know that company's basis for recommending that oil it could be they know something or it could be someones paying them to say that.

I based my criteria on the brake down additives placed in the oils per brand to derive what I feel is optimal. As well years of seeing oils in action and different TSB and factory recalls based on oil products for there oils. Mostly in the buick and GM industry :-/. I'm the only rotor guy in family rest of the mechs are piston guys. For instance a factory recall from buick was cars that come in with lifter noise is because of the use of quaker state oil the oil would brake down and airate in the heads causing the lifters to ping. Change the oil! was there response.

thats what i was thinking? like everything you buy... there must be a mid range product? thats probably what i'm after...
