Help! Coolant seals too long!
1 Attachment(s)
Finally I'm putting together this 12A, and gosh dang it the inner coolant seals are just too long! Both these reds seals that look like mazda/rebuild kit parts,
and the o-rings in a kit I purchased. The outer fit good. The inner, TOO LONG TO FIT in the groove. Here is a pic showing how bad it is. What to do? Can they be cut and made shorter? Am I doing something wrong? Did the housing shrink? ;) |
did you buy a 86 onwards rebuild kit?

The o-ring kit was from ebay, and says 12a and 13b, so I assume they would fit a 12A. Is a 86+ longer? Could I shorten it? It has a splice in the red one already, but looks a little difficult to duplicate. Or will o-ring failure occur as in the Shuttle Challenger. Appreciate the help! http://www.ebay.com/itm/13b-12a-Water-seal-kit-oring-water-jacket-seals-/251275569458?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a8130e932 |
you can cut shut them but i wont vouch for how long that will last .. if you look around there is a large thread here where ived already typed it out once ( twice ) with a method for using viton rubber off the roll to make a superior alternative for very few $$
