GT28R on a fc

is ayone running this turbo i thee setup? If so what type of numbers are expected?

RETed 08-27-05 02:40 AM

Too small. :)
You need TWO of them on a 13B. :D

Turbo II-FB 08-27-05 01:14 PM

damn I'm looking for a turbo that I can do like 10 psi and put down around 400ish

t-von 08-27-05 02:36 PM

The Gt28r wont even come close to even touching that number. It's rated at 350hp.

Does anyone know if the Gt28r will out flow the stock Ht-15? I think that turbo would be a nice quick spooling upgrade for a lightly modified stock Fc. I may put one on my vert to give it a little boost in power.

Turbo II-FB 08-27-05 06:44 PM

any idea what type of turbo... I was thinking to4s

Sorry, no such thing. :(
We were looking at 500hp at 15psi, and there's a very short list on that.

You're asking way too much power out of a 13B at 10psi... :(

Turbo II-FB 08-28-05 01:06 AM

okay what about 15psi the

60-1 HIFI could easily do 400RWHP@15psi.

Turbo II-FB 08-28-05 11:14 PM

what do they run at? cost wise

exactly what i thought

RETed 08-29-05 06:16 PM

350hp on a rotary?
I highly doubt that, unless you're going to push it over 25psi???

You'd be lucky you make 300 on a rotary with a GT28R - I'm talking GT2871R specifically.

If you're talking "Disco Potato", it's even lower than that. :(

RandomHero 08-29-05 07:42 PM

I doubt the gt28r would make 350 on an sr20 (a popular upgrade over the stock t25)

bcty 08-29-05 10:04 PM

no turbo really is gunn make that power at that boost level without wasteing a good turbo. a gt24R would do it but its pointless to run a huge turbo like that without cranking it upto 35psi+ :P

How bout a GT42R, this one was going to boost 42psi on that built supra engine. :bigthumb: Customer sold it to go bigger.

I wasn't saying it would make that power on a rotary. I was just saying that it's rated at 350hp. I still feel that if may be good alternative to the stock ht-15.

Howard Coleman 08-30-05 09:06 AM

here's what i use as a guide when matching turbos to hp/tq objectives w the rotary...

firstly... compressor maps are the controlling arbitreur as to peak hp/tq. that's because, among other things, they state the MAX air that the compressor will flow. put a turbo that flows 60 lb/min on a 5 liter motor or a 6 liter motor and if driven to the max RPM both motors will make the same max hp. that's because airflow, actually the number of O2 molecules determines max hp/tq. ( obviously assuming it is mixed w fuel properly etc etc.)

so if your looking at max hp look first at the turbos max flow. the gt28r's largest iteration flows 44 lb/min max.

be careful when you see posted hp output as it is generally for piston engines. rotaries make piston rwhp/1.3 in relation to airflow.

there are 2 methods i use to solve for rotary rwhp.

44 lbs/min * 14.471= 636 CFM/1.92= 331 rotary rwhp that's max... assumes excellent tuning, ports etc

or

44*10/1.3= 338

both these formulas are empirically derived so don't ask me for the assumptions. i have used them for a number of years as have others and they work well.

i invite forum members to test them and comment.

based on the above guides/forumlae:

400 rw rotary hp requires approx 53 lbs/min

450 60 lbs/min

500 67 lb/min

of course there are many other factors to consider when sizing a turbo such as the pressure ratio, efficiency and leftline surge position, but as far as peak hp...

it is all in the max flow.

yeah I was thinking more on the lines of twin GT30R

Around $1000ish...depends on options and all that, could be more or less. So depending on what kind of porting your running and some decent tuning, you should get close to 400RWHP or more @15psi.

Hope this helps.

Those new GT3071's with the T25 hot side look real nice, but we're trying to start small. :)

We're shooting with the GT2871R's first, and then step up to the GT3071's if need be.

Running the numbers, the GT2871R's should be able to hit close to 500hp at 15psi...

I started small too with twin GT3071's,

Xeros 05-02-09 07:26 AM

how about a 2871r to 37r in sequential mode running on e85!

Xeros 05-02-09 07:26 AM

can we say super response and power band?

Xeros 05-02-09 07:28 AM

i was actually thinking 2860rs to 35 or 42 r instead with an aggressive street port.

Romanator 05-02-09 08:18 AM

Look into BNR turbos for the FC
