Engine Necessities

I have a '94 R2 with 31K on the odometer. I am now pulling the engine to get ready for porting but have some questions.

I spoke with Rotary Performance about porting and rebuilding this engine and they had quoted me roughly $2000-$2300. This would include an aggressive street-port, seals, springs, resurfaced housings, etc. Basically the works! I am wondering if I really should do this...

I have a T-66 right now that will be going on the car. My horsepower goal is 470+RWHP. What if I was to do the porting and seals, would that be adequate for my HP goal? Any suggestions or advice will help.

TIA,
Jeremy

470hp to the wheels is an enormous amount of power. Sometimes I wonder if people realize just how much it takes to do this. What EFI system are you using? What's the specifications of the turbine on that turbocharger? To make that kind of power, you'll have to make a tonne of boost out of that compressor. Also, your window for engine knock will theoretically be reduced with the use of pump gas there; you may have to try it on a higher octane race gas and such.

Remember that the turbocharger here is the main thing that will produce any horsepower at all. For reliability's sake, it's imperative that it's mated to and setup properly around the engine to do the job right. I say go for it but do anything you can to enhance the factory setup for reliability and longevity.
