which ecu for a 20b

im lookin into gettin the microtech.for 1800 dollars
i can get the ecu a base map and coils with wire loom from tito.it also has a controller and windows compatible.but im also lookin at the link system which is llokin pretty awesome.which would u prefer?

also could someone teach me how to tune?i mean how do u know where to put negative or plus numbers where?for fuel and timing?

HWO 07-29-02 04:57 AM

Dont be fooled, If you are playing with a 20B dont take shortcuts on the efi system. Realistically you should be looking at either a Haltech or Autronic system.

Link are cheap, they dont have good correction maps. A LOT of local cars here run them on 2L turbo 4wd rally cars, they are alright but i wouldn't use one myself if i had to pay for it.

The_HITman 07-29-02 06:02 AM

I would add that if you need to ask how to do tuning then maybe an adjustable ECU is not for you.
Take it to someone who knows what they are doing and you trust them, and maybe look at running the ECU they use so that you know it will be set up properly.

twint78 07-29-02 12:24 PM

the reason im asking is cuz i wanna learn.i wouldnt try to tune it now.i want to learn first then crack a couple of eggs to make a omelet.and y not link?pettit uses link and it runs great.i dont like haltech.havent heard too much on the autronic.i guess ill be going with the microtech.

KraftDinner 07-29-02 04:47 PM

Why don't you like haltech? It's one of, if not THE, most popular EMS company for rotaries in North America.

Wolf3d systems control 20B's well, so does Electromotive TECII's, I'm not sure but I think motec sells one for 20B also.

Bingo. Just about any EMS will run a 20B.

twint78 07-29-02 08:40 PM

ive thought heavily about the tec 2 also, even maybe a tec 3 ..but does it come with a datalogit or handheld system?

10sec rx7 07-29-02 11:14 PM

Any ECU will run a 20B but the only one that can do leading/trailing split with 6 ignation outputs and 6 injector outputs is the Microtech MTX12.

rx7tt95 07-30-02 07:56 AM

AND the Microtech guys have maps for just about ANY setup that you'd be using with a 20B. I think I may have a cheaper source for the Microtech too, Twin. PM me.

any ECU needs to be tuned by someone in the car itself if you want optimum performance........

10sec rx7 07-31-02 04:54 AM

HWO,

True but the base maps will allow you start and run the car whit out the fear of blowing it up, the maps are rich and retarded timing,

HWO 07-31-02 06:22 AM

You can get 20B base maps from HITman with a similar state of tune, or is that gonna blow up because its a Haltech and they have really inaccurate timing ya know......... just see the other thread about it hahaha what a f'king joke

10sec rx7 07-31-02 07:44 AM

Hwo,

im not going to get into a bashing war with you about ecus, the fact is a haltec and autronic cant do leading trailing split on a 20b, i couldnt care less weather they can read timing properly,

HWO 08-01-02 01:17 AM

I thought it had been agrees that unless you need to pass emissions then you dont need split timing?? as firing them both together yeilded more HP

10sec rx7 08-01-02 01:26 AM

That depeds on who you listen to, i havent tryed it so i dont know, some people say yes some people say no, so if youve got it use it!

HWO 08-01-02 05:57 AM

RICE makes 472rwhp from a 13B with autronic which cant do split timing on a 2 rotor............

i think his monster HP PPT is running similar set up

10sec rx7 08-01-02 08:03 AM

Where's this monstor HP PP turbo, lets see pics and dyno sheets,

rx7tt95 08-02-02 10:22 AM

The whole split timing thing...to do it or not to do it, I don't know....many on the list say that it isn't needed and large hp gains are to be had without it. Yet looking at the Downing 4-rotor car and Spencer Racing's 3 rotor cars, they all run a three plug configuration and a Motec computer. At Daytona, I watched as their tech plugged in the laptop and did a bit of tuning. While I did not get a closeup look at the timing charts, there were multiple timing charts there which would suggest they are running split.

if you wire the motec the way they want you to on a 3 rotor it is phisically impossible to to split

mike

Jeff20B 08-02-02 01:55 PM

20B split or no split. I'm currently deciding which to do.

i thought about running a pre 73 front cover and having 2, 3 clyinder distributors

The Motec M800 is supposed to run the 20B well right? I would hope it would run the space shuttle for 4k bucks.

HWO 08-03-02 04:29 AM

Cant recall who said it but someone of this forum reckons the 26B Le Mans Motor was firing all 3 plugs at the same time...........

Things change all the time, especially in racing, but the last time I saw the Kudzu (Rolex 24), it was running a single M800 firing the plugs simultaneously.
