Dyno run and questions

Here is my latest dyno graph(sorry its in B/W, but I cant get image small enough in color).

I posted the questions in PFC forum under PMI?'s

But here is a brief synopsis:
Me: intake, IC, full open 3"exhaust, HKS twinamp, 1200 secondaries boost set at .85 on PFC, but creep to max of .98, mostly in 13-14 range, rebuilt stock motor, stock turbos. 70f outside, cooldowns between runs and a fan blowing.

My A/f's are way too rich. I took fuel from PMI upper rpm ranges and finally got my A/F to register at about 10.3 but only from 5-6k rpm, then it dropped. This was my last run where I produced 317 rwhp.
Is this a good way to tune or should the fuel graph(and perhaps timing graphs) be tweaked. In otherwords, should I put my PMI back to 100% and datalogit/dyno tune. or does anyone have ideas about anything?

Also, I had my water injection working. I dynoed my first two runs(not shown) w/o water injection. There was no change w/ A/F or HP or Torque, well my torque was about 3-6 ft/lbs more w/ WI and A/F could have been affected, except everything below 10 does not register and I was below 10 all the time at upper rpm, except for my one time popping up between 5-6k.
The two last runs(w/ PMI subtraction) were the 312.7 and 317 rwhp runs.

Thx
Steve

here is dyno, i hope

Very good indeed. The fact that your a/f is rich, is helping you with the cooling.I would say that you should look at running a 11.2 about, that would beep you on the safe side, and it wont make alot of gas smoke.
I`am not the expert with Turbo Rotaries, but i have build something like 10 turbo Boingers, through the years.Maybe you should try running a wide band a/f meter, i know their expensive, but they are worth it(or are you running one...and i missed it..??)

Have you see what happens to rotors on to lean mixture..?I`am runing a n/a one and keep the a/f at 12, no less, no more.

Well done on your hp!And this with something that doesnt have a lumpy idle with the Turbo...

Very nice indeed I'm quite impressed with the torque "curve" (more like flat line :D) if you've got 200 lb*ft of torque all the way from 2850/2900 rpm all the way to redline then that's impressive indeed! That's gotta be some sick acceleration! Congrats

?Do you still have stock primary's? If so you might want to up them and lean the power fc out. I would try for a little shy of 12:1 until 5500 rpms and then go to about 11.5:1 and you should make some really big power. That car should be really fast if you can get it tuned right.

Thats a really fast car for stock motor and stock twins.

Congratulations

Jon

So, enrichen the mixture before 3500 rpms then lean it out big time until 5500, then lean it out not soo much until 8000rpms? Right?

Yup 550cc primaries, 1200cc secondaries. I dont feel like changing them out.

I am not happy w/ my CB(too loud). So am going to wait until I decide on a CB until I tune it(figure a more restrictive/quieter CB will change everything a little).

What are all your bolt on mods to get 317rwhp.
I have a M2 Stage 3 and right now I can only get 285rwhp.https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=1304889

Powermalex,
Rynberg hit it on the head on the other thread. I had a MP on that run. That would give you about 40 horses(30 rwh) above what you have. BUT, to do that you need fuel pump, bigger injectors(tho almost debateable), a better engine management, and of course a MP. IF you want to spend the money, then great. However, just changing out your stock cat, w/ HF cat will get you about 10 horses.

My mods are listed alongside ME:

Its a moneypit tho. Want more horses, then more money. I spent way too much and if I did it over, would be able to save soo much money.

As you reach higher HP numbers, the cost to just get a few more rises dramatically. What you have and HF cat would be great. The next step for 40-50 horses is pretty expensive(~$1800). or $300 for a used HF cat on this forum.

I wish I had your A/F ratios tho. In time. Then hopefully 330+ rwhp. That is the good thing about M2, already tuned(which has become a big pain in my ass, tuneing PFC)At 4300 rpm your at 12.? A/F, I am already below 10 and stay that way the rest of the run.

I think I'll go with a high flow cat and under drive pullys and leave it at that. Hopfully I get close to the 300rwhp. They say at the flywheel I'm at 300HP. When it time for the clutch I will go with a lighter fly wheel. I think this is as much as I will spend then again it is a money pit!

Thank
Alex

I notice on your chart when you 2nd turbos kick it looks smother. When mine kick in its quit notice able.
Tires break loose up to 2~3 gear depending on pavement and grade. SCARY at times unpredictable if not carefull. Does your transition from 1st to 2nd turbos feel the same as mine on the street?

I can see why I read about people totalling there FD's in the rain when they loose control.

rynberg 12-13-02 12:33 AM

Very nice looking dyno, Stevil! I can't wait until I'm making those kind of numbers. All on a stock-ported engine too.

Although, if you compare Powermalex's and your plots, you can see the low-end torque loss of the midpipe. The midpipe rules above the transition though. :)

Stevil, if this helps you out at all, my A/F ratios at WOT with the stock ecu were as follows (downpipe and cat-back):

2.5k 13.5
3k 12.3
3.5k 11.8
4k 11.0
4.5k 10.5
5k-7k below 10
7.5k 10.2

Alex,
The smooth transition is due to the PFC. I cant even tell now when transition occurs. Just acceleration. I remember the breaking tires loose days.:)

Also, to be more specific, tho this may add nothing to very little RWHP, I have an underdrive pully, light flywheel and 4.33 rear gearing.

Rynberg,
Thanks,
I do feel more lower torque w/ my HF cat(its back on for now), than a MP, but I think the lower rear gearing helps the MP down low, by reaching higher RPMs quicker and negating the slower take off. The higher torque numbers(for HF cat, compared to MP) are at an rpm which I barely reside in, due to the gearing, I am always higher rpms and boosting quicker.
My buddy on hwy 24 one 50 degree night, sure said he felt the higher rpm torque in passenger seat, when we boosted/crept really, to about 1.03, I think, and hit 130, all between 880 and broadway exit, w/mp. :) I had it floored for a good distance. Probably highest I will ever creep, given the weather in Bay Area and my main driving habits. MY PFC is set to 12.? psi, I think .85 on PFC.

Interesting to see stock A/F. I can lean mine up a good deal. i still have my water injection kicking in at 10 psi, for safety. So, I want to rise up back on the A/F graph a fair distance. Next month I'll go finetune.

Stevil
PM me on under drive pully. I need to maintain air pump for emissions so pully is based on keeping her street legal. Also what's the weight of flywheel?

Thanks

Alex
