Diesel rotary?

i tried doing a search first, and can't find anything relevant...

anyways, i was thinking, we're oil-burners already, why fight it?

it seems like you'd just put the diesel fuel injectors where the spark plugs were and eliminate the fuel injection area by the intake.

obviously it's not that simple, but does anyone know why this wouldn't work or wouldn't be a good idea? can we not achieve the high compression ratio needed with the epitrochoidal housing shape?

First rotaries are very sensible to detonation and a diesel engine works by using detonation. Second I doubt a rotary could achieve a high enough compression and third the housing surely wont stand it. Do you have any idea how strong diesel engines have to be?

Dangit, found a thread:

Apparently this has been discussed, and is possible, just not practical right now. :)
