Used carbon once and will never use again. Were not bad just no response in low end and poor gas milage. Kocked really bad once and blew two seals in rear rotor. Absolutely no damage to housings and rotor, it just turned into puff of dust. Running lean and detonation are two different conditions but I am not going to get into it, if you can not identify the difference then you should not be giving advice here. You can detonate this **** out of NA as I have. There are two kinds of sound when detonating, first the rattle which most are aware of, second the thunder usully on ported NA. It literally sounds like there is a pin ball hammer beating on the floor pan or you have a bolt sticking out on the fly wheel and rubbing the bell housing. How I found that out is something I wish none of you will go through. Until today that is the only motor I don't know why it detonated. The only thing I could think of is the MSDs or winter fuel. I blasted to the gas station and after fill up blasted again then cluank!. Ever since then I run factory 3 piece in my J bridge motor. Response is great and the motors see 9.5k rpm at least hourly.

Okay then.... how about a street ported engine running so lean an O2 sensor registeres 0.000 volts, full throttle for about 20 minutes at a time? (road course - after 20 minutes the tires would go off)
Had to turn the heater on full blast to keep the water temps below 220. But never detonated.

Just describing the ends of the spectrum. I never, ever, ever once had a lean run detonation issue. Only got it to happen with timing.
Maybe our 87 octane fuel is better than yours?

Run 2mm apex seal rotors and decent iron seals. Prioperly clearanced 2mm iron seals can handle RPM no problem. 2mm rotors are better anyway, they have 12 rotor gear pins which makes life easier on the stationary gears.
