BOSCH 044 real and knockoffs --read this--
1 Attachment(s)
I just wanted to let everyone know that in addition to knockoff wastegates, blow off valves and turbos we can add Bosch 044 fuel pumps to the list. Someone recently bought a pair of 044 pumps from a fellow forum member and the pumps looked different from the usual 044's.
These pumps had a M14 inlet compared to the 044's M18 inlet. They came in Bosch boxes and had the same part #'s. They didn't flow anywhere near what they were supposed to. Bosch was contacted for a confirmation and confirmed that there are a few companies making fake Bosch 044s.Another way to tell the Real 044s have czech republic on the side if it says germany also fakes have M14 inlet compared to the real 044's M18 inlet. They dont flow the same, they have been tested. Easiest way to tell without even seeing them is if the price is too good to be true, it probably is fake.

I noticed this fake '044 issue 3 years ago when I was buying my '044 as well so there are probably lots of fakes out there.
I went with the higher priced Bosch '044 from Kinsler. They have a reputation to protect, have been probably using the same Bosch distributor for years, list fitting sizes on the pump as well as flow rates and Amp draw and now have their own in tank filter and check valve for the '044. The pdf based catalog is clunky... |

there are even fakes of the walbro 400lph already

when i was buying mine they were basically identical. one main difference is that the box was a different, like faded yellow. 4 years ago when i bought mine i did some excessive research but i cant remember much of the differences. Thanks for posting. Definitively very helpful

I opened what I think is a higher quality fake and a totally crap fake. The one worked fine for about 10 years but started being very loud. So I had what I thought was a new real one. Box and everything looked good. Put it on. 3 dyno pulls later car didnt start and pump would only start after tapping on it. Opened it up. Like one brush was stuck and overally the quality and fitment of the brushes is extremely poort. The older pumps letters also dont look like a real pump but at least it has a proper brush holder. The rollers in the pump secrion were worn out tho.
also worth nothing the bad china clone has a ceramic side plate in the pump and the better one a metal and some blue teflon like coating on the other envelope.. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...e9c23b52b.jpeg Very poor quality brush assy https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...cd8c2c695.jpeg Much better quality https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...ce8c667ab.jpeg Left is the pump assy from the poor quality china pump. Has ceramic endplate and no coating on outer ring. Right is better quality item has a steel phospated end plate and some blueish coating on the ring https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...826aa4a0f.jpeg Both would be fake judging the imprints https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...1eb9a42e0.jpeg They had better put less effort in copying the box and more effort in the brush assy |
