best start for a fast RX-7 (FC)
what model would be best to start with if i plan to make a 500-600hp FC3S? i figure that if i got a TII it would cost at least double an N/A and i would end up replacing almost everything anyway. does the TII have any advantages as a base other than the stronger tranny and rear end?
anyway the reason i'm asking is i found a N/A close to me which i can afford with money left over for mods. also insurance is much cheaper for an N/A. |
Start with a T2. Everything is stronger. I too plan on building one up for at least 500 horsepower. And still keeping it semi streetable. Ive heard some people say the insurance on their N/A and T2 are the same. It helps if you add a backseat.

How much $$ are you willing to spend on your 500-600HP FC monster? and will you be doing all the work?
Look for a T2 with a bad motor. You would want a rebuilt motor anyways if youre going after 600 HP. p.s. look into spending several thousands of dollars if youre going to get 600HP. |
yeah i know it's several thousand dollars, i guess you're right about finding a TII, it would cost more to buy an NA and swap the TII parts than it would to just buy the TII.

Then again... the only "stock" parts of the T2 you would still be using with 600HP is the drivetrain/brakes...(maybe)
|
the only thing you need out of the t2 is the rear end and tranny?
otherwise you are better off na mike |
From what i can tell get a 89-91 Turbo 2 Mk5 as they have some stronger bits than the Mk4's and they also have colour coded trim and u can use alot of gen 3 bits in the engines

wow..500horses!..Chito Solomon here in LA has a 500HP FC but he did it with a 3Rotor with a huge single garrett and a standalone computer.
You want 500HP FC??? buy Chito's!..He wants 30+K for it. Very nice car with only 30K miles on the chassis. |
soul assasin and crispeed on this forum both have TIIs over 500hp with 13bs.

If you do everything yourself custom fabbed, I will give a very rough estimate of around 15k+ for 600hp (i assume you mean whp, since you referred to cris and soul)... I don't think you have any idea of what you're getting into here, because if your worried about the cost of an n/a vs. a tII, you're not even going to be able to afford controllable fuel for this beast IMO. If you want cheap power, get a fucked over TII with a decent drivetrain and drop a (GASP) V8 in there. For around 4500 (less if you know people), you can buy a twin GT35 ballbearing turbo kit for a 302 with FMIC, dp, wg, etc, capable of 700rwhp and full boost by 2k. You can use the stock cam, with some upgraded heads, as it's a good turbo profile. With fuel and some good tuning, you're looking at mid 9's with if the half shafts dont break. Just tryin to give you some advice |
well the idea wasn't to get out tomorrow and buy $15k in parts and have 600hp by sunday, it was to slowly build up over time, my goal is 550 wheel hp 2 summers from now (not this summer, not next summer, the one after that). since you have to replace pretty much everything though does it really matter what you start with?
