Apexi V-mount intercooler
Does anybody know where you can get this intercooler? Apexi uses this on there D1 FD. Tried their website and they didn't have it there, only the front mount GT one. I'm looking for a V-mount. I know HKS has one and so does rotary exteme. Are there any others?

Yeah, thats what I've been thinking about doing. Do I just get an intercooler and fab my own brackets etc. Could I use like a greddy 3 row or is there a certain one that works well?

Get a spearco ic, measure how much room u will need including the endtanks. Then research and find the biggest one that will fit.

I want a V-mount because a drawback for a FMIC is if you are using your car for a daily driver, so many rocks, pebbles, etc. are in contact with the FMIC. With a V- mount it isn't directly in front. Also, v-mount doesn't block the radiator from getting air. I know heat rises, but all you need are air ducts that can conduct the air to where ever you want, which I was planning to do.

I'm sorry. I had forgotton about the rocks and whatnot. You were asking about an Apexi intercooler. Why? Though they do offer it as a kit, I wouldn't go for it. I would try other options; all intercoolers are pretty much built the same. Most are bar-and-plate, and they have the same function. Keep your options open :). I also forgot about to mention venting. You probably don't want to trap that wasted heat in the engine bay, right? If only there was a way to turn that rejected heat into useful work (think exergy). On a V-mount, the radiator is mounted at X-angle with the intercooler. Either way, you're going to wind up exposing the radiator or the intercooler. I'm not advocating either method, because they both work. It's a matter of preference. Good luck finding the right solution :).

Yeah thats true too. I'm going to look around. it's a lot of fabrication that I have todo to make my own. Most likely I'll end up spending the money on one of rotaryextremes v-mounts. They look well put together.thanks for the help though guys.

I am actually making my own right now at school. It's not that difficult to fab up some brackets and piping. You do however have to relocate the lower radiator filler neck for better flow. Then I fabbed up a diffuser in the middle to direct airflow. I also though about the fans so I made a sheetmetal undertray with louvers cut out so air can flow up and to the radiator but keep out some rocks. It seems to be working quite well and temps have dropped a few degrees. I'll get some pictures.

Do you have a rev-cowl hood to fully exploit the benefits of your v-mount? Keen on those pics when you get them :)
