Apexi fc commander any good?
 

As anyone used apexi FC commander and is it work it any improvements? How's the rev limiter on it work? Any other ecu chips I should look into?

Apexi PFC is the best i personally think, But some people do like to use microtechs for easier use.

The Apexi PFC is a great ECU for somebody not looking to go too extreme.

A prime example would be, once going over 650cc with primary injectors, you have to use negative settings to get it to work, but I think this is only possible up to 850cc until you run into idle problems.

That being said, somebody on here is running 6 1000cc injectors with their PFC.

I plan to run 725cc primaries and 2000cc secondaries when I convert to a single turbo setup.

Ethanol is also an issue with PFC. Injector size, lack of programming capability, additional sensors available (haltech has a flexifuel sensor option)

Oh yeah, you really need to purchase a Datalogit unit to properly tune the PFC. The Commander/handheld option is not comprehensive enough to do a full and detailed tune. I currently borrow a friend's Datalogit when I tune my car as I can't justify purchasing one for the little bit of time that I do need it.

The PFC and commander are a good combo the commander gives you alot of information , and allows for some self tunning if you get brave enough .

the PFC is a good ECU but it is 90's technology so its not what an adaptronic or MS is today with traction control and all that .

But it is a very easy ECU to use , and its one of the VERY few stand alones that support sequential Twins . <-- my main reason for liking it somuch

it controls the Stock boost control system as well it is a very good ecu for mildly tuned car .

In my opinion, if you are looking at a pfc, you need to know its limits. If you really want to have full tuning access, you'll need a dataloggit and fc edit.

At that point, cost wise, I'd go with something like the Adaptronic.

When you buy the PFC do you need to go and tune-it or is it just plug-play ??

i am looking into buying an fd that is dyno tuned and has 1300cc fuel injectors. im unfamiliar with tunes in general, but i know that the car has an apexi commander pro. can i reset the dyno tune with this and just go back to stock apexi tune. and will 1300cc injectors be fine with this or no?

What are you saying? Why would you do that? 0 sense that makes. Why would you reset the tune on a tuned car to drive on the pre-loaded map? Which injectors are the 1300s?

like i said i am unfamiliar with how tuning works in general. but the current tune makes the gas mileage pretty bad, so i wanted to see if i was able to use the apexi commander to remove it. so that i could go back on the stock map to help with gas mileage. just wasnt sure if the apexi is able to remove dyno tune.

Based on what you're saying it sounds like you're not familiar with anything..... to include the basics. If you're looking to buy an fd, you're going to destroy it. Read and learn more and leave that car for someone who understands the 101 of modified cars in general.

RX-7's aren't gas mileage cars. If you need good fuel economy, get a daily driver with good fuel economy. If you're unlucky the car might have the factory oil metering (injection) pump blocked off and needs to add fuel even at light load because the fuel injectors are responsible for injecting premix into the engine. Even if it has a working OMP, be careful about adjusting anything in the tune. Be sure you can justify why you're making an adjustment, have a plan to change just one thing at a time and measure that your change was effective, and have a backup plan in case your change was not effective.

It's good you found these old threads, that means you can search. Keep learning and you'll get it eventually. There's a website and youtube channel called Horsepower Academy, they have lots of good info about tuning including a few videos showing RX7's on the dyno adjusting target lambda and adjusting ignition timing.

Yeah, I just know because I picked up a membership a few years ago when they were 50% off. The amount of knowledge available is AMAZING. Hell, most "professional" shops could radically up their game simply by following the HPA lessons, lol!

Are these still in use? I just dug one out of a parts box that I believe I was going to swap to from 2007...
