Apex Seals Blown! Help!

Hello gang,

I am in a pissy mood tonight. I just found out that my 1993 rx7 needs a new engine. The mazda dealership quoted me as much as 10,000 to replace the turbos (which i dont think need to be replaced yet) and the engine!!! Is there any f#$@%* g way to do it for cheaper or any other suggestions other than buying another car? I understand that these cars cost $$ but, i really do not want to go broke on this car.
ALL IDEAS AND THOUGHTS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
feel free to email me directly at kiddslick8@Hotmail.com.

thanks all.

What the HELL is that Mazda dealer smoking?

10,000 to replace the engine and turbos? What a joke. Maybe you could get another shop (rotary shop) to install a set of used turbos if needed and a new/rebuilt engine?

On another note... if your apex seals are blown... why do you need to replace your turbos? Why is your engine bad specifically? I say ditch that dealer quick and find someone that knows what they're doing.

Good Luck,
Brian

often chewed up bits of apex seals exit out the exhuast ports reeking havoc with the turbine wheels, probably what has happened

WEll like Wargasm said what the hell. Second, never go to Mazda for any reason other then to get parts!!! have someone else install parts if you can not or will no. I stop there.

OK. What about this scenario.

The dealer tells you they can put a new engine in for $5k. You say fine, they do it, and when they're done, oh by the way, when the engine blew, it threw crap into the turbos and ruined them. (You can ruin a turbine wheel if you bump it with a screwdriver, what do you think a chunk of engine at high speed could do?) Now you are out $5k and the dealer's telling you it'll be $5k more.

Which is uglier? Being told now that it probably also needs turbos, or being told AFTER you already spent a big gob of money on the engine?
