aftermarket oil cooler?
Well, my iol cooler is a little leaky, and all dinged up, and just generally looking like ass. I could probabally just clean it up really well, bend all the fins straight, and get some of those nice ss oil lines and be set, but I came accross some of these on ebay:

They don't list the brand. I'd stick with Setrab or Mocals. The Mocal 25 row 225 series will fit very well in an FD (I have two!). Not sure about a 2nd gen. You always get what you pay for!

Coolers
Racing Beat says the stock coolers are the best you can buy. Go to AMERICAN COOLER SERVICE, Inc. for a FAA company that will make your cooler look better than new for less money than a new one.

get mocals if u dont want to stick with stock ones, the fins on the mocals are a lot harder to bend and they are only 50 bucks more than the ebay ones.

yeah, mocals do look sturdier in that sense. Another idea I just ran across on ebay is this:

Actually, I know a guy who was running an oil/water cooler on an EProd car... said his coolant temps were running too low and oil temps too high, so it worked well. But that in addition to, IIRC, the Mazda competition oil cooler.

Does anyboy have the dimenstions of the stock oil cooler? If I go with something at least somewhat bigger or the same, that should do me, right?

But still, I can't find dimensions of the stock cooler anywhere, and I can't just go and see it right now as it's at home right now, and I am at ETA school. Does anybody know?

dick elliot, why remove stock thermostat? thats the one on the bottom of the cooler by where the lines connect to the cooler right? |

ooops, I'm sorry. I never did specify which one did I? I am speaking currently of the 2nd gen oil cooler, sorry. Although that was pretty cool, I did not know 3rd gen oil coolers were so small...later:)

Running an EProd car in the SE. We tried one of those water to oil coolers and almost baked the engine. This thing came off of an ARCA car and was fine for it. We had oil temps close to 275 F when the driver backed off an coasted the last lap! The water temp never got above 200 F We now are running 2 stock coolers plumbed in parallel. We modified the stock banjo fittings to accept AN stuff. Running them parallel is important to get the most from the set-up. This way you have the greatest temperature differential from oil to air in both coolers.

Could you please post some pictures? And how do you tell if one stops flowing? Just as a precaution, you know, like somehow one gets clogged, so only one flows, but you woulden't be able to tell because pressure would still be the same...
Btw, I saw this really cleaned cooler on e-bay, but they said their uncle had them done, so they don't know where he had them done. Darn! It looked like new, said they were cleaned with "ultrasonic cleaning", what they use for cleaning and flushing airplane coolers. Recomend anywhere that does this, or cleans coolers in general? thanks...lateR:) |

If I remember correctly, the fittings needed on the oil filter neck, front cover, and the stock cooler are 18mm to 10AN...it's been a while so a search might be in order. I used two 25-row Mocals which work very well with the FEED Type II front end.
