Advice for a NOOB
My life-long dream ever since Gran Turismo and the like, was to own an RX7. Now I find myself in posession of one such vehicle, and after I stopped drooling, I realized...WHAT NOW!? I have an 84 GSL and I would like to give it a little more kick. I don't want a racecar, and I'm not one of those ricers that has no appreciation for a true masterpiece such as the rotary engine. That's when I found this site. I thought I would be better off consulting my brothers in rotary. Your collective genius would be deeply appreciated. I definitely DO NOT want to mess this up. I would like advice on places to go, companies to check out, and what to do. As I said, I simply want to give it a little more kick, nothing crazy. Definitely nothing racey.
Thanks  |
Take care of the engine an car, change all fluids, spark plugs, broken/worn parts, etc. etc.
Theres lots of info on this site, ya might want to start in the 1st gen section, and of course using the search function. There might be a lot of BS to sort through, but if you have a lot of time on your hands... search, read, repeat. To get to the point of giving it a little kick Upgrade the carb and exhaust system, an have fun. :D |
I had very good results with the Racing Beat "Street Port" exhaust system on my 84 with a stock-ported 12A engine. The exhaust was very quiet. However, if your car needs to pass emissions, you may need to stick with just the cat-back muffler.

Thanks for the link Aviator. I found some good stuff on racing beat. One thing I still need to find is a light weight driveshaft...

you will need to find a good driveshaft shop to make you a custom shaft and i dought it will be cheap. you are better off spending your money on a good clutch and flywheel... or update your brakes to the SE brakes...etc
