1984 12A. Factory timing should be set at 0, and 20 degrees (leading, trailing). I also know that in "normal" engines, ignition timing advance that exceeds factory specs grosses more power. I'm fairly well grounded when it comes to tech talk, and how to make HP, but very new to the rotary thing. If someone could offer some insight, it would be wonderfull. Is it safe to run more timing advance? What are the prices of unexpected detonation? Keep the spacing between leading/trailing the same, close it, open it?

Should I connect my timing light to L1 on my distributor and set the yellow mark on the crankshaft pulley on the pointer to set the leading timing?

To set the timing on the trailing distributor should I connect the timing light to the T1 and aim for the red mark on the crankshaft pulley? What do I adjust to set the red mark on the pointer?

stock timing is good. if you had a streetport and a holley or similar you cna set to L=3*BTC and T=17*BTC

i now have a better understanding of the 84rx ignition system. The car runs. You were right reading a manual helps, But nothing helps better than someone that really knows rx and is not afraid to share information.
