At Pomona this weekend Abel qualified in position Number 3!

Abel Ibarra (K & N Racing Mazda RX7) 7.360 @ 177.30

Abel then went on to win round 1 against Manny Cruz (who had borrowed Abel's old R100 in an effort to keep his championship hopes alive!). Abel managed to win with a PB :)

Yep just saw that on the NHRA website. There is also another 6 second import with the summit cavalier making a 6.9 second pass.

I was driving back from In and Out up the street when the crash happened. We were right next to them near the airport. We then pulled up to the wall at the end and saw everything. The car was about 2' away from us and it was mangled!!! It was a very sad moment indeed watching them pull his lifeless body out of the wreckage. He wasn't breathing......from the latest news he's in a coma with a punctured lung and broken neck. Noone really knows the outcome from the people we talked to at the hospital.

We actually picked up 2 springs and lot's of body parts from the car that were laying across the street from the end of the track. It was a really really bad crash:(

Pro driver John Lingenfelter, severely injured in a racing accident in Sunday's semifinal round, will undergo surgery Tuesday at Pomona Valley Hospital as doctors try to fully determine the extent of his injuries to better treat him. He is in critical but stable condition and heavily sedated by the medical team to prevent further possible complications prior to surgery.

"The good news that I can share with everyone is that John was receptive to the presence of his wife, Cindy, last night, which is a good sign," said team spokesperson Brent Malone. "We ask that everyone offer their prayers and thoughts to John for a safe and speedy recovery."

Lingenfelter was racing R.J. Simrock in the semifinals of the Mazda NHRA Sport Compact World Finals at Pomona Raceway when he lost control of his Summit Racing Equipment Chevy Cavalier, crossed the centerline, and hit the guardwall in the opposite lane. According to witnesses, it appeared that Lingenfelter may have been knocked unconscious upon impact, as his car proceeded off the end of the track under power before coming to rest against a safety barrier at track's end.

why the hell does k&n even sponsor abel? you go to their pits and take a look at his car, he doesn't even use filters on his turbos. imo, that's just stupid marketing, it make us feel like we're just being duped by k&n.

anyway, the crash was totaly lingenfelter's fault. he started fishtailing around half track so he let off the throttle and regained control, once he got control he floored it and got uncontrollable tire shake, sending him across the centerline and into the wall. once you let off on a turbo car, your not supposed to floor it again, cause it's power curve is not linear like a s/c'ed or na car. once you let off and fall out of boost you just have to give up on the run.

A lot of cars don't use the product they are advertising on their cars, but who cares. They pay the money that allows us to have fun watching these guys and gives us bragging rights, etc...

The crash was Lingenfelter's fault, and he'd be the first one to tell you that. But he did exactly what he was supposed to do, STEP ON THE GAS!!!

listen to what you are saying....Lingenfelter does not know how to drive?????? gimme a fucking break ,the guy has been draggin since before you lost your virginity. that was a VERY stupid remark to say about someone and something you dont know about!!! on a NA car when you floor them they INSTANTLY give you full power and torque where as a turbo car (especially with a large turbo) will 'sneak' the power on making them safer to recover. DAM, MAN think about what you type before you press the 'submit' button

I would say that "any" comments about his lack of driving skills are not justified, especially considering the guy almost lost his life and is in a critical condition in hospital, I think your comments are not welcom giving the obvious tragic circumstances surrounding the "event"

Just a thing out of respect realy. No one said Ayrton Senna could not drive or had no idea when he crashed at Imola (inquiry could not pin point what caused the "exact cause of the incident") I would say from the wreck in this situation it will be hard to say exactly what caused the situation to happen in this racers case as well.

Either way it is tragic when somebody loses their life or suffers majour injuries from a racing shunt, wether it be their fault or not.

I am not a drag racer, but I asume it would be harder to control an instant N/A set up compared to a TURBO of same BHP level ? Either way it's a fucked up situation !

i talked to the summit guys in the pit. they even admitted he shouldn't have done that. watch it on espn2 and you'll see what i'm talking about.
