467.5HP Dyno

I finally got my car on the Dyno this weekend with Steve Kan doing some tunning for the Phoenix Rx7 group. I loaded my car up and headed to Phoenix for a day of tunning.

I asked for a conservative tune being that this car is street driven with occasional track use, so we aimed for a 10.8 AFR across the board and which we got.

We hit 467.5 at 19psi with a 50/50 mixture of 91 and 101 octane gas. That was around 7000 RPM but we lost the tack signal on that run so we missed out on the RPM and torque measurements. The next run at 20 psi we saw 466 HP at around 6k and then Steve let off sensing a slight ignition breakup. This was on BUR9's all the way around.

On pure 91 ocatane we saw421.8HP @ 7100RPM 15-16psi with 322 torque and so this will be my "street trim".

I have an aquamist setup with was not functioning so that'll be turned on, and I'll be modifying my ignition, adding another fuel pump and modifying my turbine houseing/DPsetup and a few other things.

I'll try to get the graphs posted but they are really light and my camera isn't picking them up, so I'll have to find a scanner.

Congrats Chris!

All I can say is it was DAMN exciting. You're car is incredible. You could hear it several blocks away screaming on the dyno.

Steve definitely knows his stuff when it comes to tuning. Awesome day for everyone!!! Good luck... quit shaking (I think you know what I mean:D )... and wipe that smile off your face:D :D

You come to us, $250, we come to you, $300 :).

Carl Byck 11-24-03 01:01 AM

How far will you come(norcal)?

RCCAZ 1 11-24-03 06:26 AM

Carl,

Steve told me this weekend that he has not turned any "group" of people down yet in 2003. You need to have a minimum of 5 people at $300 for him to come out. That's why it's a good idea to have people prepay you and hold the money. He can do up to 6 cars per day, but it will be a long day. PM me and I can give you more details!

I was extremely pleased with Steve's tunning. He did a great job and was more than willing to explain what he did and why. Very professional, and I didn't have to worry at all while the car was in his hands.

Hey Chris,

You never told us how your mother and father-in-law liked their little ride:D .... that is if they haven't keeled over from a heart attack!!!

NOW do they know WHY you love your 7??

carx7 11-24-03 01:11 PM

Haha. My parents wouldn't get in the car:D My mom love her ' 96 5spd Gt mustang, but the cobra was too much ;) No was did she need to get in this one haha.

After a ride my neighbor did say that it was the fastest thing he's ever been in and that when I took his wife she was going to "Sh!t her pants" haha, guess I'll put some plastic in the seat before the ride!

I love these cars!!

in2twins 11-24-03 01:22 PM

Chris' new license plate "bodybag" :D
BTW anyone know why the mods keep deleting, and/or moving Chris' threads? Must be jealousy;) Chris you'ld better get in the GB on the Racelogic TC. See ya, Carl

carx7 11-24-03 02:14 PM

Oops. I guess dyno numbers are supposed to be in the performance section. Oh well.

bodybag huh? I'll have to consider that one. I was going to go with the good ol CAR X7 that I used to run. Wow, yeah I drove the car to work today and itwas ~40degrees outside this morning. WHEEEEEEEEE! hehe

Darn it if I don't have to go to another site for a meeting in an hour! Gotta drive the car again DANG! ;D

I could get used to this :D

synapsis 11-24-03 06:19 PM

What side of Tucson are you on?

Have you taken it to SIR yet?

setzep 11-24-03 06:51 PM

How's the twin Tial setup controlling the boost? Good?

carx7 11-24-03 10:33 PM

Synapsis, nope, no SIR yet. I just got it running really this past weekend. I guess since the track is closed I'll head out first of the year. you should come to our next get together. I think J-rat is planning a christmas party or something... check out the west forum.

The Tials actually work very well. I can honestly say I can run on WG pressure (.8bar) with zero creep... all the way to 8k. The only issue I have found as you suggested is that I burned through the gasket on the WG off the secondary rotor. I ended up using a metal gasket off some honda motor (Iguess) and it seems to be holding up very well.

Congrats Nice numbers

Do you know if Steven Kan has his own website?
If yes what is it?

Good to hear your WG's are holding back boost creep. I wish my 46mm tial would do the same:( Oh well, gives me something to change this winter ;)

Are you kidding? I thought that W/G was the bomb... I"m really surprised to hear that. Hmm... I forgot what I calculated, but the twin 38's should have ~30% more flow area I think... My rear gate is certainly positoned for ideal flow from teh engine out the gate... probably too idea since I think it actually hurts the flow path to the turbo....

Needless to say I have several things I would/will do differently on another mani.

carx7 11-25-03 07:40 PM

That's was me above, forgot the wife was signed in :D

If it's got wheels and an engine, Steve can tune it :)
