13Brew, rx8 rotors, in an FB. Possible?

Hey guys, I'm thinking of selling my 93' Efini Type-R in the summer and doing another N/A build. I'm expecting in the neighborhood of 220RWHP. Am I pretty close?

My plan is to get a 13Brew from an FD, yank out the rotors, and replace them with renisis rotors, and whatever other odds and ends would be necessary to balance the renisis rotors. The engine would be powered by a megasquirt or similar ECU. nothing fancy since it's just going to be N/A.

Also, being that it needs to be mounted in an FB, I'm not sure if u can use a 12a front cover, or a GSL-SE 13b front cover on the REW.

Feedback appreciated.

AFAIK you can use the 12a cover. Do you really need the .3-1 extra the 10-1 RX8 rotors will give you over some 9.7-1 rotors (I think I have the comp ratios correct...)? There was a 13BRE FB build somewhere on here where the owner had made 230rwhp.

Need? no. but I can get them or the same price as Renisis rotors. So there's no reason not to. Plus they are lighter, so they should yield a higher redline.

well if they cost the same, then by all means go for it!

not worth it. you'll still have to spend to modify them for use with peripheral exhaust ports, so you'll spend more. use the 9.7:1s.

But if you do modify them for earlier 13B apex seals, you not only get lighter, higher compression rotors, but you get the side seals closer to the face of the rotor, which allows you to extend the intake ports more aggressively (so i've heard)

no one said anything about a Pport?

well, get your grain of salt ready. admittedly, i haven't messed around with Rx-8 rotors in an older 13B, myself. other people have used them in older 13Bs and 20Bs, successfully. however, i haven't found any clear-cut, convincing data/argument to show that the extra static compression makes more power and the weight issue can probably be circumvented with money and machining. the side seal placement is beneficial for porting though. bottomline, i'm not telling him not to do it, but if i were in his place, i probably wouldn't.

as a matter of fact, he did when he specified the REW. true, no one mentioned peripheral intake ports, but the REW (as all pre-Renesis engines) has peripheral exhaust ports.
