stock 1988 TII, what would I need to beat a 1996 Cobra?
He's got full exhaust, CAI, and a short shifter. I got a stock 1988 TII. His best run at the track is 14.0 so what would I need to beat him? And how much?
|
Not a whole lot actually. RB turbo back, fuel-cut defender, intake, and a Fuel pressure regulator with upgraded secondaries if possible. In total about $11-1200 w/o labor.
|
Er? The RB turboback is like $1100.
Anyways... Corksport 3.125" downpipe Corksport 3.125" midpipe Racing Beat Cat-back (turbo model) FCD Walbro 255 Prelude TID + CAI Some good clutch You should run high 13's/low 14's with these mods. Only if (and of course) you have proper maintence/clutch/good tires/good driver. |
The RB Turbo-back is $789. A far cry from $1100..
|
Are there any other cheap bolt ons that I can perform or tuning to cut some more time off in the quarter?
|
If u r going to do something do it right... get a turbo back and a fuel cut defender to start. HUGE difference
|
Fuel cut defender? What is that and where could I find one?
|
It allows your car to boost past stock.
Adrock: FOr shipping that heavy ass exhaust it should be around $1100. Or $900. |
If you want to be fast, do the turbo back and fuel cut defencer first. If you want your engine to survive the higher boost then I suggest you get bigger secondary injectors or port your wastegate and turn down the boost.

ill sell you an hks intake an fcd and a 3in ex with a high flow cat, and hooker max flow muffler for 150 bucks if you pick it up lol, youll be alot closer...
i just need to get all this shit out of my garage... |
intake, exhaust, fcd, fuel controller, fuel pump, upgraded secondary fuel injectors, 12psi, and a good tune. Prices depend on brand name and if you do your own work.

I raced an 04 (automatic) stang with a full exhaust against my stock TII with a boost leak. We went to about 100 or 110. It was tied through second i missed third horribly, it put me about 2-1/2 car lengths behind, but by the time i got to around 100 i was creeping past his rear bumper right b4 he let off. So, my point is....if you get those mods i'd put all my money on u. If you don't it might just be a driver's race if from a roll

Btw, how good is your motor? Fresh rebuild? Done a compression check yet? It also depends on that. |
Ya I did a compression check and the compression is good, the engine is healthy. What are you runnin in the quarter Eternal Gamer with your current mods?

I have yet to race a cobra though and probably wouldn't have much confidence until I get my racing beat 3" turboback exhaust, 720cc injectors, and 12 psi tune. Dont underestimate em though, but don't think its as fast as the 99-05 cobras.

FUll exhaust 99-05 GT isn't much, race one with gears/cam/nitrous. My friends bolt on 97 Prelude (intake/manifold/header/exhaust/6-puck) destroys a local one on a regular basis. All CObra's have a manual transmission unless it's swapped. |

96 cobra is fairly strong car, should be high 13's well driven stock. they respond well to mods too tho. especially gears

The FCD will render your stock boost gauge reading incorrect as well.

So I'll be having my showdown too.
My dad owns a Whippled 97 :). 250HP out of abuilt 5.0? Your friend sucks. |
