thanks for the help, but iwas looking for a real life situation, someone who raced agaist the two of them who could tell me the difference betwen them, i know how my t2 compare to an evo, but i want to know how it compare to an sti, i'm midly mod, stock ic, ecu, rb turbo back, 720 sec, walbro hp, aeromotive fpr,tob4 hybrid 10psi, i take easily stocks evo's buy never race an sti

SayNoToPistons 08-12-06 11:42 PM

no. you made 3 of the same threads.

93rx74lyfe 08-13-06 10:58 AM

the sti stock shouldent be a problem, because from everything ive heard the evo is faster stock for stock. Have you ever raced them from a dig, because those things are fast! from what ive found around the area the sti drivers tend to have a little more skill but regardless my fd still beats lightly moded ones and i only have 300WHP :balls:

gabyo5 08-13-06 11:13 AM

never from a dig, it is always on the highway, but someday just for fun i'll try it, i'm just enjoying my car, i know i don't have a rocket on wheels but i'm happy with my 7,by the way, thanks for the info, that's what i was looking for

93rx74lyfe 08-14-06 11:33 AM

^no problem! :icon_tup:

dumpsterdriver 08-14-06 02:34 PM

stis are shit. if you are doing better than mid 13's (and thats if the sti knows how to drive, which none of them ever seem to do.. at least around here) you have nothing to worry about

evo is not match for sti, straight or curves. its been proven. what was that british dude that tests cars?? forgot the show. but yeah, evos are shitty

sti>evo

rx7 SE 08-14-06 04:48 PM

I've raced both in my stock tii while it was running lower than stock boost (crack in turbo intake pipe). The evo was from about 60 and up.....and he destroyed me horribly. The sti was from a dig and from a roll. You can guess what happened from a dig. From a 30-80mph roll he pulled not even 2 car lenghts. The weird thing is, i've talked to them both and the guy in the sti said he destroyed the lancer from a dig and kept pullin on him by about 5 car lengths. So, i guess my point is, just go out and race one, and find out for yourself, aight!

Top gear, seen that one. Yellow Lancer vs. Blue sti vs. Red audi rs4. Lancer wins by about 3 car lenghts and the sti in third by the audi's side view mirror.

you have that backwards, the sti walked awary from them both

cool_as_crap 08-14-06 05:19 PM

oh shit your right, i rewatched. cant believe i confused the two :dunce:
my bad

cool_as_crap 08-14-06 05:34 PM

but i know ive seen an option video (?) on a roadcourse with the sti beating the evo

Roen 08-14-06 05:35 PM

for further clarification from two sources:

On Top Gear, when the Stig takes the Evo out for a time trial on the test track, he was pushing it, beating it, and it wouldn't let go of the road. When he takes the STI out, he got nothing but understeer in the corners.

Sport Compact Car also had their reviews for US-Spec Evo's and STI's. They praised the Evo for its handling, but once again criticised the STI for its propensity to understeer.

hondahater 08-14-06 07:18 PM

there is an evo in town that is pushing more than stock boost and a downpipe and alchy injection and that thing is fuckin' fast! I can't wait to race him but damn it's going to be hard even with a big turbo.

21K95RX7 08-14-06 08:34 PM

it seems mitsubishi is putting more of their jdm goodies in their usdm vehicles than subaru does in theirs.

rx7legend 08-14-06 10:54 PM

ill say stock for stock on straights the sti owns the evo, but when they are modded the evo owns the sti. i've never raced against any of the 2, freaking rare in my area, is hard to see one come by. but i wish that my uncle decides is he going to buy the Evo MR lol then ill see what they can do, :)

I stayed out of this expecting a flood of ignorance, but I see everyone seems to have it straight. :icon_tup:

On the Top Gear where they run the STI, Evo, and the Audi there are some critical details missing. The only STI that gets a 2.5L with 300hp is the USDM one. The STI on the Top Gear episode has less power(not sure exactly how much less) with a 2.0L and the UK has several different Evo trims with the least one having 260bhp. I'm not sure which Evo they used for that, but it's safe to assume that the UK Evo is a bit faster than the UK STI.

Now for the USDM market we have the 2.5L STI because Subaru could not get the power they wanted out of the 2.0L while keeping it within US standards. IMO that is not cool because what kind of rally car exceeds the legal rally displacement? They should have stuck with the 2.0L. Typically on a dynojet dyno Evo VIII's put down anywhere from 225-235awhp with near equal torque, STI's put down anywhere from 250whp-260awhp with near equal torque, and Evo IX's put down 265-270awhp with near equal torque. Evo VIII's run the 1/4 a hair behind the STI, and the IX is a hair faster than the STI. The difference is so slight that the driver makes the biggest impact on which would win.

Evo VIII's have a little more lag than STI's, but the MIVEC in the IX fixes that. STI's still have a little better boost response thanks the the extra half liter of displacement. STI's are criticized for their tendency to understeer and are often noted to not have as good steering response as the Evo. Every comparison I've read puts the cars nearly equal in performance regardless of year, with the winner being chosen by frivolous things.

This topic has seriously been beaten to death. The only thing that really separates the two USDM cars is which interior/exterior you prefer. Neither car "owns" the other, and those that tell you otherwise are either misinformed or have their own biases. If you're talking about what the rest of the world, the Evo wins hands down unless you're including the limited edition and extremely rare STI Spec C, but then I suppose you could include the extremely rare Evo FQ400.

Roen 08-15-06 12:55 AM

I thought, because of the understeer, the US Evo's own the US STi's on the track?

It really depends on what review you read. The last one I read said that the STI OVERSTEERS more, and so is more "fun" than the Evo, so it won the comparison. Usually the Evo edges out the STI ever so slightly around the track, skidpad, and slalom, but the difference isn't that great.

rx7 SE 08-15-06 01:36 PM

You can't really base anything on car reviews really cause as we're all seeing, every review is different and has a totally different outcome.
