Playing with Lotus Elise...

Yesterday going upstate NY I see this nice looking Elise, quiet a bit in front of me, so I sped up to see if he wants to play a little, sure enough he was ready for the game, as I got close to him he knew whats up and nailed it, we played safe for a while till we got of the trafficky part.

Once the highway cleared out sort-of, on a straigh part, we both floored it from like 60mph, I started loosing him slowly, he was good 3-4 cars behind me by the time I hit 120+ mph... I bet he poked a hole in his floor pushing the gas pedal trying to make the Elise go faster :D

Anyway, when I was about to get of the exit he pulled near by me and gave me thumbs up.

It definitely sounded like it had an exhaust mod, it was loud and kept poping everytime he decelerated or shifted.

Good kill, John!

What do you think of those Elise's? I've seen a few on the highway...mean looking little car, I think.

SRA-FD3S 11-17-05 09:19 PM

No fair! :)

The Elise isin't set up for straight line racing (NA 1.8 litre Toyota engine - less horsepower than the entry level Accord). Racing against an Elise on a highway on an FD brings to mind what Mustang owners consider 'racing'. However, I know you were just playing and it's all good fun :)

I wonder if the FD's extra power is enough to keep up with an Elise on a track? Those things outhandle Enzo's.

LokiRx7.1 11-18-05 08:06 AM

Popping? thats odd sounds like his timing was a little off or somthing... Oh well even with good timing I dont think he would have kept up

Neither is the FD...they have less power than the GT eclipse, but its all hp/lb. :)

What does the Elise do on a 1/4 mile,
I think even a stock FD will smoke it from 35-40mph roll, hands down.

Nahh, my FD used to do that all the time when I only had a DP & a CB with a drop-in K&N.
My thoughs are that the main cat gets so hot and the little unburned fuel couses the wraap-wraap poping efect.
Ever since I gone w/straight 3" exh. never happened again, I've seen foot long flames, and no poping.

I think supercharging it and running low boost (8-10psi max) that car would be hard to beat. I know that the motor might not last to long sine it's high compression, but we all have that problem with our turbocharged Rotarys  and have learned to live with it.

Haha... yea right. Integra TypeR's are running circles around them in the UK. Check out www.itr-dc2.com forum :D

Jager 11-22-05 01:42 PM

Elise's run a low 13 don't they?

Good kill, I'de love to see that race.

this happens when the car only has a cat(s) and no other form of resonation;no mufflers at the tip. my brother owns an SRT-4 and those cars come stock with straight pipes all the way from the cat. now that he has a Mopar Borla 2.75'' his shit pops like a mofo.

i saw an Elise too, for the first time in my life the other day (i live in salinas, ca, for any of you that know/have been here, you know why this is such a big deal). i wasn't in my FD, if i was, i would have wanted to play with it as well ;) this one was loud, but it didnt have the poppy noise, plus it was an old lady. hehehe i would have played with her a little since she figured she'd pick on a gt mustang.

usually when people talk down on FF cars, i'm the first one to mention track duty itRs being great road racing cars...

but itRs running 'circles' around lightweight MR elise... i'm having a hard time believing it.

1RevvinFC3S 11-22-05 07:24 PM

Nice kill. There's an Elise 111S running around my town, as well as three or for '98 or so Espirit V8 SE's. Sweet ass cars.

killswitch 11-23-05 08:58 AM

I think I'll have to give my friend a race when I get my FD :) He's got a brand new 2005 model, not sure which one so I'm sure it'll be interesting!

Montego 11-23-05 01:34 PM

Good kill.

What's your RWHP?

ALNY93R1 11-23-05 09:31 PM

Nice kill, John

Outkast 11-24-05 08:24 AM

Elises have 190 hp and run low 13s. I don't see FWD cars running circles around them, as even with a respectable straightline acceleration they were designed purely for handling. Although a modded Type R should give it a run for it's money in handling, let's keep in mind that Elises weight 1900 lbs stock, and run 1.5 seconds faster 1/4 miles than a '98 Type R Integra (14.8). Both great cars but no competition in my opinion.

Thanks ya'll...

Most recent dyno results yelded ~ 400 RWHP pushing 18-19 psi on 60*F atmospheric temps. While ago I pulled few dyno runs on 10-11 psi which yelded 311 RWHP at most, on 90+*F atmospheric temps and that's what I runn on dayle basis, enough for the Elise :D .

GOOD KILL ELISES ARE slow. but the extige version has a gt turbo running 12.5's. Theres one here in miami thats pushing 400hp. and running mid 10's. Got to sit in one and your actually inches from the ground when you open the door. the room in the elise is deep.

id still buy one if i had the chance. How much pis you pushing?

Thanks, I got it set at 10-11 psi for everyday use... I need a good Boost Controler so I can keep the boost higher without spiking.
