Older Porsche
 

For those of you who live on Long Island you probably know RT25A its a mostly 55mph road with some nice hills and twisty turns.

I recently came upon an older 911S/C early 80's i would guess. We had some pulls from the lights and then once we got to the open areas we had some more fun.

I would call it a kill he was faster but i had more balls. I overtook him on the outside on a few turns and although he was able to pass me on the straights after 10 miles or so i was in the lead.

My biggest problem was after all was said and done he gives me this look like (I was just toying with you)

I own a 1982 911SC, stock they only had ~180hp but the 3.0 liter motor responds VERY well to mods and with a proper turn and upgrades it has a throttle responce that is positivly electric. even the new 911's dont have the responce that the 3.0 CIS engine gives you. anyways they arnt very fast by today's standards and this particular porsche is not as easy to drive in twisties as later models but still perform fairly well espically in a experienced drivers hands. keep in mind what was great suspension design in 1977 would get embarassed most sports cars less than a decade later. my 91 vert with worn shocks would easily out handle the SC. so i could see a modded fb keeping up with one in some nice turns but straight line the fb better have a 13b with some good mods.

my SC is a 1982 Targa with all sorts of mods my father did to the suspension and engine. it keeps up with 993's and i have wasted plenty of newer sports cars (S2000, 99+ mustang, 350Z). but i have been murdered...an m5 blew my doors off in a 60 to 140 pull. but hey it gets thumbs up and waves all the time. i've been a rx7 person since 16, the porsche is not a better car it's just more fun to drive...when it isnt in need of repair which is about 50 percent of the time. id put some pictures up but i always forget how to post pics...give me some ideas and ill show ya if youd like.

I would love to add a Porsche to be in the same garage as my GSL, but I'm far too afraid of the cost of maintaining one when it comes time to replacing all the things that go wrong. I suppose its not so scary with an FD as I'm planning on buying one after winter. Heh, that is my own stupidity apparently as I couldn't imagine it being very much cheaper to maintain.

I almost bought a 83 944 in mint physical condition. It was dirt cheap but needed a tranny and clutch. When i realized how hard it was to find a tranny and a non OEM clutch i decided it was bad idea. Theres no way im paying mroe for a driveline component that i did for the friggin car.

To be honest they really are expensive to maintain and older ones need near constant attention to keep them in top running order. The upside of this is that it is very easy to get parts and the dealer is fairly decent on most parts. Here are some pics...hopefully

Well that is a narrow body car, the turbo bodys look outragous in comparison. But for a 25 year old car even i get impressed by it's simple yet just right look. My father has a friend that has a 650fwhp 1986 930...and yes i saw the dyno and took it for a ride on 'low boost' ie. around 20lbs, high boost it gets 2bar...spinning tires at 120 in 4th gear is the way to go. BTW 930's only had 4speeds until the last year 1989. anyways driving a car like that in houston is pretty retarded but the once in a million chance you get an open freeway or road it eats cement like nothing you can describe...and we RX7 guys talk about turbo lag nothing until 3300rpms and its gone shift whoosh, wow im going 70mph just that fast and i didnt even floor it...gotta love what money can get ya.
