NSX - Not much of a fight

I'm not sure that this qualifies as a kill but I'll explain anyway.

I see this Silver NSX (late model) with aftermarket exhaust going the other way on a basically empty street. I turn around and chase him down. Get up next to him and match his speed. He guns it and I drop the hammer. I pulled so hard right past him that I immediately started laughing.

As soon as he sees how fast I am, he lets off, I guess to try to salvage some dignity.

I put on the brakes and wait on him. He pulls up next to me and rolls his window down so I did the same. He says "Wow, you sure are proud of that thing aren't you?!". I look at him and said "Sure am, wanna do a full pull?" He doesn't answer he just kinda looks at the car. We get to the light and stop. The light turns green and I look at him and give him the "Go ahead!" and point to him to kick it off. I already know I'm much faster than he is but I wanted to really see how much faster. He wouldn't do it.

Not sure if that counts because he didn't want to look that bad in his expensive car but I would've kick his a*s if he did try a full pull.

you should of at least gave him props for having an NSX instead of a lexus or sumthin

jic 03-02-07 12:26 PM

silly honda kids...

TwilightRotary 03-02-07 12:38 PM

if those honda kids can start affording nsx's, then i just give up.

3rd Gen Jeremy 03-02-07 12:42 PM

This was no kid, he was middle aged having a Midlife Crisis I guess.

gainer_reniag 03-02-07 12:46 PM

those things can be fast ass hell. there is a shop owner who does like sound, video and car alarms. his NSX has a full carbon fiber body and everything it runs low 11s with spray. I myself wouldnt trade my 7 for one but they are awesome cars and very rare.

CarbonR1 03-02-07 01:15 PM

Sounds like he was too mature to street race you.

Don't think so, he tried to give it a run at first but I made him look bad so he quit.

TwilightRotary 03-02-07 01:40 PM

nice cars for sure. i would definitely consider one if not for the painful cost that comes with it.
nice job on the kill.

Yeah if you think these cars are expensive to maintain, an NSX is crazy expensive just to buy let alone maintain. I saw one on Ebay that was fully built with a supercharger and all the bolt ons for like $65k. That's nuts!!

All he's got invested in that car is his wallet. I'll give him props if he's under the hood turning wrenches like most of us and pouring his heart into the car. I'll give him props for being rich but not for the car. He's got some work to do before he gets props for that.

Stix37867 03-02-07 03:30 PM

What's wrong with just owning a NSX. It's like saying owning a rx7 without modding it is a sin or something. And why would you presume he's having a midlife crisis. I didn't realize that being successful in life and having a nice income was a bad thing.

My dad has been looking for the right NSX to buy for about a year now, and even thought about finding one with a blown motor so he could rig up a 4 rotor in it. He just retired and has worked hard his whole life, and now he has free time on his hands to do what he loves (cars). And from what you are saying, he's going through a midlife crisis. Nice mentalilty.....

I think that's cool. What I'm talking about is the guy I met last night. He obviously was buying a status symbol and not buying it because he loves cars. If that was the case, it wouldn't have mattered to him that he would lose, he would have given it a fair shot.

Like I said, props for being rich, I respect the ability to make money, I'm all about it. I myself am very career oriented and work very hard. However, I don't have to give props just because you own a car. I don't expect mad props for sitting in an FD, however, I've worked really hard on mine and built a beautiful car because I love it. I'm really impressed with the performance that the car is capable of. If I'm due any props, it's because of the quality car that I've put together, not the status of it.

A stock NSX isn't much to beat. He's still driving an NSX which costs alot more than most other cars. At least he has the $ to buy what he wants.

dumpsterdriver 03-03-07 02:39 AM

you kind of sound like a bit of a cock actually. thats a pretty in depth analysis of his personality based on the fact that he only pushed it for a second

most times i come across vipers or ferarris or whatever the guys wont race. i doubt its because they are embarrassed that they will lose, i usually assume its because they are doctors that just like having a nice play car and they get tired of every cocky asshole in town trying to race them everywhere they go

ill admit that im one of the assholes that always tries to get a run out of them, because occasionally ill get a little bite. but most of the time they just ignore it. if i so much as get a rev out of a ferarri im satisfied :D

Montego 03-06-07 01:56 PM

I think it qualifies as a kill. Good kill :)

I thought about purchasing and NSX. But I stayed clear of them because they are not very fast at all unless you have deep pockets.

how old are you? No offense man but you sound just like an SRT-4 owner. Basically you turned around, chased him down and after you dusted him you laugh? not cool.

bro at least he played, older guys almost never PLAY. Give him props instead of insults.

Rx7TyreBurna 03-07-07 02:35 AM

I like the look of the NSX. Very sleek.

Stock, they aren't much, but a tuned NSX can be pretty quick.

Good kill..... though, i would only say 1/2 a kill. :)

Actually, I should probably elaborate. I wasn't laughing at him. I was laughing because I can't believe how fast my car is now.

When I first got the car, the turbos were blown. I put a new set on there and put the car back together. No matter what I did, the car wouldn't boost over 3 psi.

I finally figured it out. It was a welded open exhaust manifold ( somebody tried to do a non-seq conversion on the car) I replaced that and decided to go all out and prep the car for a Steve Kan tune. The car was on jacks for 4 weeks and I worked on it furiously every night after work. I finally got it back together and trailered it up to St. Louis from Memphis, got everything sorted out and finally tuned for 15 psi after a lot of blown hoses and a flooded engine ( LIve and learn right).

I trailer the car back home and put it on the street. Take it out for a test drive and blow another hose. Open the engine and find 2 more blown hoses. I fix those, put it back together and blow another hose. This went on for 3 days until I finally got everything taken care of.

The night in question was the first evening I ever had the sequential system working perfectly. It's also the first time I've ever boosted it to 15 psi on the street. I was laughing because I built a badass car and it was crazy fun to drive, not laughing at him.

Oh yeah, maybe I was acting like a kid but I felt like a kid with a new toy too. That may have been a part of why I chased him down. I just wanted to play!

I should give him props for that you're right. I just wanted to play some more so I was a little pissed.

Montego 03-07-07 09:51 AM

yeah I remember your problem, glad you got it fixed and enjoying your car :)

Thanks for clarifying about the laughing thing :bigthumb:

Once again.....why wouldn't you win ?? Twin turbo FD vs a N/a Ac with less than 300hp. I can race min-vans all night long and win, but it's not hard.....

Mini-vans aren't 50k used. I was just hoping that it was faster for being billed as an exotic with that price tag.

darkphantom 03-08-07 05:25 PM

nsx are still hot and very reliable

True, true. I agree, they should be a lot faster than they are.

1RevvinFC3S 03-11-07 11:25 AM

Hmmmm... Nice... kill I guess?

rx7henry 03-13-07 02:07 PM

Really? Stock to stock, the 1/4 times of the late NSX are usually low to mid 13's, w/ the NSX-R and newer 6 speed models breaking 12's even straight from the factory. I don't believe I have ever seen any FD do that.

All the FD has over the NSX are the 2 factory hairdryers. In terms of quality, performance, build, etc, I think its safe to say that the NSX takes the cake. They are both wonderful cars, but the NSX just offers a tad more from the factory over the rx7-tt.

I know this might start up a heated debate, but contrary to popular belief, the Mazda Rx-7 is not the greatest thing to hop off the boat from Japan.
