My VR-4's Track Times

I spent the day at Island, got 3 runs in.

Race weight 37xx lbs without me, 3880 with me.

Quarter tank pump gas (94oct).

Intake / 3" DN Downpipe / 3" Testpipe / MBC @ 15lbs
RPS Max Pressure Plate / Intrax / Enkei RP-01 18x9 / Nitto NT555 245/40/18
Stock everything else with 150k on it.

First Run (ever):
R/T... 0.191
60'... 1.972
330... 5.546
1/8... 8.489
MPH... 84.31
1000... 10.990
1/4... 13.096
MPH... 108.06
Lost to a 10 second muscle car on this run, but gained the same mph in the second 1/8 as he did.

Second Run:
R/T... 0.084
60'... 1.772
330... 5.256
1/8... 8.162
MPH... 85.74
1000... 10.629
1/4... 12.717
MPH... 108.94
Beat a WRX's 14.574 at 94.03 with a -0.04 R/T on this one.

Third Run:
R/T... 0.261
60'... 1.729
330... 5.296
1/8... 8.279
MPH... 83.20
1000... 10.809
1/4... 12.935
MPH... 107.15
Beat a Mustang's 14.912 at 96.10 on this one.

All in all a good day ... I was bummed by my first 13.1 but psyched at the 108 trap, and I was happy to get a decent launch to pull a 12.7 out of it. The last run was going great until the second eighth, no idea what happened. In any event I was pleased, not bad for 150,000 mile stock turbos on pump gas and virtually no weight reduction. :p:

Tell me whatcha think. The 12.7 run is on video (which isn't online), and I have all the timeslips if anyone wants me to prove anything. This gives me a good baseline for when I put in the 13Ts.... :) :)

you lucky bastard, that 1.7 60" makes me so jealous.. traction is nice isnt it :D

thats a pretty good trap for the mods, faster than my friends 3kgt vr4 was on the same stuff.. i think his best was a 12.9.. dont know the mph but i doubt it was 109

he jsut put in 13g's and emanange and fuel and a few other things so he should be quite a bit faster now, hasnt been to the track with the new stuff yet though

dumpsterdriver 11-14-05 02:16 PM

15g's on stock fuel system, stock fuel pump, stock exhaust etc.... 12.91 at 106mph

that was his best time and mods before, just talked to him. he said he ran my friend mike the other day who has a realy nice talon that runs mid 11's and the talon beat him be a few cars.. still on stock exhaust

so your times sound real good :)

tt2323 11-14-05 02:39 PM

wow that 60ft is impressive, for such a heavy car! I don't have much experience with the 3000 but have owned a few talons. I would have been happy with a 1.7 launch in one of those

lawdogg 11-14-05 07:05 PM

Thanks guys ... :)

With 15gs and supporting mods, you're looking at 11s ... I hope he is planning on getting the supporting mods. :)

VR4Power 11-14-05 07:19 PM

:beerchug: Awesome times!

dumpsterdriver 11-14-05 07:49 PM

hes got them, as far as i know all its going to take for him to run an 11 is him getting toa track to do it ha.. he hasnt run it for a year or so, the bigger turbos were about the only mod he had when he ran the 12.9.. dont know why he started with them

turbogarrett 11-14-05 09:34 PM

Can't complain about those times, nice work!

breckboarder55 11-14-05 09:39 PM

good job of getting that fat pig of a car (no hate, you know its true)down the track so fast.
i like em but i hacent seen to many to many quick ones around were i live.

ajsuper7 11-14-05 09:40 PM

you guys obviously know more about 3kgt's than i do, tell me about those cabrio vr4's, i saw a blonde driving one a few days ago and i had totally forgotten there was a drop top model of the 3000gt. im assuming they are very rare but i never saw a magazine article or any info about them. got any links? ive only seen 3 of them over the years 1 black one and 2 red ones. imo very beatiful cars.

breckboarder55 11-14-05 09:46 PM

Thanks! :) It weighed in at 3720 lbs, and I weigh 160, so that is almost 3900 lbs to be hauling down the track. But it moves pretty good, so I'm not complaining.

From 94-96 there was a "Spyder" edition that was a hardtop convertible. Check it out here:

Yep there are tons out there ... but a well-running turbo 3/S is a completely different beast. :)

very nice times! good job!

Snotcycle 11-16-05 12:21 AM

whats the AWHP?

MaG18 11-16-05 03:35 PM

^ All Wheel Horse Power

lawdogg 11-16-05 04:18 PM

Never been on a dyno ... with those times and that weight, according to this site I should have between 375 and 394rhwp ... I can't find any AWHP calculators. So for now who knows. :)

VR4Power 11-16-05 09:02 PM

You are off with your awhp. What you listed are probably a record or something because the average awhp of a bpu 3/S is about low 300's. Stock they are putting down 260 on a good day, avging 240-50ish. The weight doesn't make a huge difference once you are moving, the weight kills the launch (which in this case doesn't matter since its AWD). Basically, the traction got you those times, not necessarily the awhp, and definitely not high 395. 3/S's with close to 400 at the wheels are doing low 12's.

Again ... I have never been on a dyno. But I would agree with what you're saying .. most BPU cars have around 400 flywheel hp, so whatever that means at the wheels. I wish there was some calculator that you could put in your 60' time, E.T., and trap speed, and it would tell you your AWHP. But I don't think that kinda math exists quite yet. :)
