Mazdarotty vs. Maserati

Ran a Maserati GranSport tonight on the way back from Visalia on I-5 near Williams with my 93 Fd from 90 to 135ish.
I was driving north, eager to get home after a long week, so had the cruise control on @80ish, traffic was very light. Car with one head light out kept gaining on me, and as he got in my review, I saw this:

400 HP V8 ENGINE

The Maserati GranSport’s normally aspirated 4,244 cm3 V8 has all the structure of the most advanced racing engines with dry sump lubrication and twin overhead camshafts per cylinder bank with four valves per cylinder hydraulic tappets. The intake cams also feature variable phase timing.

Its maximum power delivery has been upped from the original 390 hp to 400 hp too, thanks to special development work to reduce internal attrition and careful work on the intake manifolds and valve seats. The engine has been combined with a sports exhaust system that is instantly recognisable, thanks to the unusual design of its twin chrome exhausts and was designed to give enthusiasts that instantly recognisable deep, full-bodied rumble. Thanks to an electronically controlled pneumatic valve system, even more can be made of the exhaust by pressing the “Sport“ button on the central console too.

I pulled into the slow lane, he pulled up to me and took off. Shifted down to 4th, and followed. He got the jump on me but as we reached 120, I started slowly reeling him in. We shut down for traffic, pulled in behind him and we went at it again when cars cleared, with the same result. I pulled up next to him and saw one of the most nerdy guys behind the wheel giving me the "pope wave". Reminded me of a few of the EE's I worked with at Delco Systems in S.B. We paced each other into Willows where he and a Quattrope Maserati that ended up following us, pulled off. Just looked at the ThunderHill Track (in willows) website, and huh, Ferrari track day tomorrow! Track is only 15 minutes from my work, so, I know where I'll be tomorrow for lunch, taking the camera!

Can't say how happy I am with my car! I've got stock engine/turbos with 70k, all the bolt-on's and a power fc. Boost @ 11lbs.
Hehe chalk another one up for the Theft recovery FD! :)

I think these things are heavy, but, he may have busted my chops above 150....

It's fun beating up on those with their Ferrari engine. :) Nice work man! Usually the Mazerati guy is pretty impressed wondering what's up with that.

Nerds from Delco in Santa Barbara! We use to live in SB, and my wife had the unfortunate chance to do some temp work for Delco in mid 1990's.

Some (not all) of these guys were real nerdy and reminded us for the complacent workers in the TV series "The Office" and the movie, "Office Space."

I thought it was ButtonWillow near Willows . . .

FWIW, in our 500E we pulled against stock STi's going up the hill to Willow at 140+.

It's always nice to hang with more expensive units. I know it was very frustrating for the Porsche GT3 I stayed next to on highway 50. He kept trying to lose me and I just kept right next to his passenger side looking at him and waving....the look of frustration on his face was priceless. There a local Marenello that I need a rematch with now that I have 400 rwhp......:-)

they might be fast but they are CRAP. i did valet and i got to drive this guys maseratti about once a week same color and type in the pic and that thing drove horrible and the interior was falling apart in it and it only had 7k on it. they have this lever you have to grab in order to get it into reverse and the whole middle consol broke off and popped up. owner broke it before hand and didn't tell me. he put duct tape on the bottom of it to help it stay down. needless to say get a ride in one or drive one you'll find out the FD is a supperior car all together no matter how much tech to they put into that V8. i would be more appt to buy a v6 slowstang then that maseratti. pure sh!t i tell you
