Killed by a civic hatch

Ok, here I was on my way down a long stretch of straight highway at about 1am this morning, and a guy had followed me out of a town in a civic hatch trying to get me to race. He wouldnt leave me alone, I let him go on for about 4 miles, then I decided I would just give him what he wanted. Dropped to 3rd, and we both got on it, he pulled on me really hard and got up to about 10 or 15 cars on me. This is 2nd loss for me, 1st was my friend in his neon, it was about the exact same race. Well, anyone know why at about 4k or so in my car, it just wont go any more? It gets to just above 100, mabey 105 then just wont go past it? I thought these were top end cars but I guess not, cause I ran the neon and the civic in 1st and 2nd and I ran right with them, but then at 3rd they just kill me.

Thats why I am always glad that I have my truck. Got me an 83 s10 with a 355 lt1, TH-350, ratcheting shifter and such.

well, the stpooing around 4k in 4th is how it seems, I didnt actually look down, so there is a chance that it was past it, them rotarys you just cant tell where they are sitting rpm wise by listening. It just seems to not want to go much over 100 and the are supposed to go 128 right, not like I would have taken it that far anyways. also it is an 86 gxl, never been rebuilt, has 131,300 on it.

Perform full maintenance on the car---plugs, wires, fuel filter, all fluids flushed.

make sure you 5/6 port auctuators are working. Look it up in the search. Are you running stock exhaust? It can be a limiting factor, especially if your cats are clogged.

Yes it is completely bone stock, the porst seem to be opening fine, when it hits right around 3500 in each gear, you can hear a little whitle, and the car will haul ass in 1st and 2nd. Oh, and plugs are prolly fowled. The day I got it, I let my cousin look at it and he cranked it, but only let it run for about 10 seconds then cut it off, got flooded really bad. I plan on doing full maintinence when I get some more money built back up.

i had an 86 gxl and it had around 180k miles on it and i still got it to push 120mph on a regular basis. pretty much stock. RB downpipe was the only mod.
but i always kept up the maintenance like crazy. the right oil, filters, and regualar spark plug and wire checks and it'll run great till the apex seals go.

and before everyone tells me that theres no way my old ass seven can't go that fast.
you're probably right.
as old and worn as that car was, despite its ability to run perfect, im even willing to bet the speedometer was off.
but hey, maybe it wasn't.. i can hope can't i.
