killed a 911 in my tii

saturday coming back from the movies on a main road adjacent to the interstate and it was pretty dead maybe 3 cars in sight at anytime, just cruising along at speed limit when a car pulls onto the road in front of me in the right lane from an on ramp and i recognize its a gorgeous older 911, i point it out to my lady friend with me because i'm sure she thinks my car is a pile of crap and i have never driven it hard in the least with her in the car with me but most girls know what a Porsche is... so i am going faster than he is in the first place and i pass him casually in the left lane and there is a car in front of him so he follows behind, first clue he wants a race, so i pull in the right lane and there is no traffic in front of us as he pulls next to me. he is just driving next to me doing nothing so i give her a little fifth gear throttle and let off, he gets the picture and does the same. its on now. so i drop to 3rd at ~50 and he does the same, we both then get on it at exactly the same time w/o any honks and are off. i pull about a 1/4 car length on him by the end of 3rd and shift at just over 7k an awesome shift i didn't lose any lead on him. then just as i start peaking boost again i see some shit in the road in front of me coming up fast WTF! 4 big objects just randomly in the road, as i get closer i see they are hay bails (fucking wisconsin) but they were mostly concentrated in the middle of the road so i navigate a path past taking my car halfway onto the shoulder of the road and clear them safely i look in my driversside mirror to see if the 911 was still going and he was he made it through fine about a car and a half behind me. so i let off at the top of fourth ~115. i turn to my friend and say yeah i just whooped a porsche.

this in all reality may not be that impressive and i do not know what old 911's do in the quarter but i decided to post for 2 reasons. i thought it was cool to beat a porsche and the haybail action.

all i have done motor wise is a manual boost controller(12lbs), a/c removed

BALE.

Its hay bale. not bail lol. and... commas are your friend;)

Nice kill.

Although I'd love to see what your afr's with only a MBC running 12psi. I guess engine rebuilds are cheap:rolleyes:

my motors already shot anyways with a bad internal coolant seal so idgaf, plans for swap or rebuild this winter will have to rip apart the guts and see what is good/bad.
but yes i would also like to see what my afr is bc i dont feel any detonation when driving hard.
edit- i also saw your car nate "i believe" on 94 going west near delafield about a week or 2 ago

Haven't been up that way in like over 2 months...

coolstorybro time.

When I got my first rx7 a couple years ago, it was running 12psi on a streetport with the only fuel mod being a walbro. When it would get cool out it would lean cut, never predetonated though, and at the time I knew nothing about tuning or anything.

The next spring I put a wideband in, and at over 10psi the afr's would go 13-15! scary numbers.

IMO limp your motor along as with a coolant seal failure, most of the internals can be reused. Makes more sense than potentially destroying an apex seal/rotor/housing and being stranded, and on top of that having a more expensive rebuild.

13-15 arent bad afr's tho? 14.7 is optimal so close enough if theres no detonation right? running a little hot but whatever.

Spirit-RE 08-19-10 09:50 PM

No.

over 8 psi I would not run above a low 11. at 12psi I am running a 10.5 afr(stocker turbo). With your setup, its a time bomb.

BTW 14.7 is what you want your idle/cruising to be, not under load. Simply put, you add extra fuel under boost to help cool the intake charge.
