Had some fun with a Mclaren

saw a new Mclaren on the hwy today. I am not sure the model. It could have been a 570s but not sure. All I know is at speed a wing came up. So not sure if that tells us model.

In any event we had a little fun. I was behind him and went to over take. He hit gas at same time. I started in 3rd and got to middle fourth before hitting traffic. My guess was that it wasn't going to end well for him. But I am not sure. I may have had a slight jump as wel. Dunno. I was surprised but it felt like i may have started to gain. It wasn't clean so really can't infer much. Anyways I slowed to go from 2nd but he didn't want any more.

I I think he was surprised too. He gave me nod and drove off. Younger guy too. Maybe he pokes around and comes to this post....

22psi on bnrs with meth. Making 420.

Here is the kicker I ran a GTR today and lost but it wasn't a great race. Here is what happen...twice. We started in 2nd around 4500rpms. All of second we were dead even. Dude! Then I shift to third. And both times during my shift he jumped a car. Like instantly. Maybe even a car and half. During that split second shift man. I couldn't believe it. Does those things have a sick tranny or what. Anyways I get into third and instantly stop his jump. I felt I could have been inching up on him during third. Ever so slightly. Then that was it. Both times we had to let off as I approached maybe 7k rpm in third.

To me this is too short a race. I think we would need to do some work in fourth before a real winner could be declared. But in any event both races ended with me at his rear bumper. All the gain was from the second to third shift. Any one have insight on this? Why such a jump when I shift?

Matty, what's the peak boost on your PFC commander after all these pulls? 22 psi is a lot of boost for BNRs.

That's a lot of boost, 1.00 kg/cm^2 is 14.2, so yup around 19. Your gauge will tend to read about 1-2 psi higher so you probably are seeing almost 22 on any gauge you might have.

What's your water/meth setup again? If using just windshield wiper fluid, make sure you never run out at that boost level

pretty sure its snows. I am buying that boost juice stuff.

I hear you on the boost level. I really dont beat on the car. Its hard to in CT anyways. The roads suck and are crowded. Thats why both of these events sucked (cant even call them races). But I will say, i thought i would have pulled the GTR and a little pissed about it ...ha. I bet i was reeling him in though. sucks to have 5 second "races".

Its what they do really well.....keep accelerating when we are changing gear...lol.
I think you would be pretty even by 3rd gear

Put a turbo 400 tranny with 4500 rpm stall + shift kit and you won't lose ground during shifts . Has anyone ever built a street stalker rotary FD with aggressive automatic tranny? Just curious...

I though about doing that with with my auto RX-8 (keeping it auto when I swap in my turbo rotary).

Another nice thing about auto is you can do a big brappin port and the torque converter smooths it out quite a bit driving around under low load when its not locked up.

For fast shifting one could also convert their stock 5 speed transmission to "slick shift" (poor man's dog engagement) for basically free and bang off no lift shifts very quickly- especially if you have the Formula Ikeya Sequenshifter (which I do).

Bummer is one botched shift and you have to take the trans apart and grind the burrs off. This is part of why you want to run a vertical gate shifter (sequential) with this mod.

Saw Mclaren in Greece, have no idea how it’s like to drive a car like that in mountains, looks pretty uncomfortable, but yeah I was jealous anyway as I was in my little KIA rental car. By the way was really charmed by Greece and thinking of buying an apartment in Athens to raise some money in high season (air bnb project or something like that). They say it's a good time for Greek investments again.
