Got Killed

Me and a friend of mine always joked about racing in the drawing class we take. I drive a bone stock 1984 RX-7 GSL (unless a K&N air filter counts as a modification) with a bad carb', he drives a late-eighties Toyota pickup with exhaust, some mods I don't remember, and nitrous (no joke, nitrous). He's really in to that whole import scene, whereas I just tend to like cars (particularly mine :D ).

We actually got our chance after class today; normally I take the bus, but I knew that since this was the last day of the semester, there were no parking restrictions and it was free, so I drove. As we were leaving class, we just so happened to find ourselves lined up at a red light right outside the school. We rolled down our windows, looked at eachother and knew what was going to happen.

The light turned green, we both gunned it, and due to the fact that my car hadn't fully warmed up (something to do with the choke... the car drives slow for a while after I start it and let it warm up, then all of a sudden it sort of "breaks out" of slow-mode while I'm driving and starts driving normal, a. k. a. fast), he beats me soundly to the next light. As I get there, I feel my car jolt a little bit, which means that it'll be running at normal capacity from now on.

We line up again, I smile and tell him that he won and ask him for another go since I wasn't entirely warmed up (I felt lousy, like I was making up some worthless excuse, but it was the truth!). He agrees happily, the light turns green, and we take off again. This time, we're dead even until I shift in to second. At that point, he starts to pull on me, but as soon as I press the gas again, I'm catching up super fast, but by the time I'm right next to him again, another car is blocking the lane, so I slow down. This occurred over the course of approximately six seconds or so.

I'm relatively positive that I would have lost, and at the next stoplight, I once again concede the win to him. He made a turn at the next light. It was awesome, and the first actual "race" that I've ever really been in.

Maybe one day we'll actually be able to race for real.

Racing on roads where people drive is dangerious and stupid. Keep the racing either in the track or on roads no one goes on.

I dont know what's more funny you losing to a toyota pickup or the fact that it actually has nos!

wouldn't it be more correct to use a ' when writing "dont" or "cant"?

"to all you OTHER kiddies making other threads" sounds silly too. if I were writing that sentence I might say "attention all you's newbies and mofo's... please use correct spelling and grammar when posting in a thread."

it's after 1:00pm, I'm heading home. merry christmas ya'll.

No, he's right.

After the second "run", it kinda' dawned on both of us simultaneously that we probably shouldn't be racing there and then, and we both cooled it. It was a sorta' unspoken thing. Weird.

For the record, we had the opportunity for a third one, but we didn't take it.

GOOD CHOICE MATE!!

Dont be stupid like me and my friend were.. we went 80mph in a 45

(painted to sort of match the fd! haha jk)

i hauled my FD with my dad's little nissan from Salinas, CA to San Jose, CA (i wasn't going to pay $280 for a flatbed). that's about 55 miles, half of which are twisties and steep inclined hills. :)

put a few mods in your car, then run him again. this time go out in road near the fields where no one passes by... that guy should put a 2JZ in his Toyota haha
this is my friends shop (blacktrax.net) which did a 2JZ swap on a toyota pick-up and made it run 9's!

Whether it's stupid or not, you can't stop people from street racing. Tell me that you or your deceased best friend have NEVER raced on the street. I would bet you'd be lying.

I'm sorry for your friend, don't get me wrong there.

The problem lies where none of these kids are taught how to drive at high speeds. They have the invincibility complex, and they're the best drivers in the world...at least in their own minds they are.

But it's also the fault of the towns and cities who shut down tracks, leaving us no other place to race but the streets.

FallenCho 12-11-05 02:51 AM

lovintha7: Truth is all you speak. Same thing as when I was younger. Cops would harass my friends and I for skateboarding in certain locations but they never do anything about getting us a skatepark in town.

However on the subject of cars I have to agree that racing on densely/highly driven roads is the most retarded thing you can do it still wont stop anyone especially retards. I have to say though that if people knew how to drive their cars and had a little bit more sense that "street racers" wouldn't have such a bad name.

I admit to being a retarded driver at times cause for some reason I love passes that have tons of turns in them and love to see how fast I can take them and I mean granted it may be at 2AM when noone is out it's still stupid of me cause the smalled bump in the road could cause me to lose complete control of my car so I've forced myself to tone that down a lot but man challenges are so tempting. :(

Snotcycle 12-11-05 03:36 AM

that is a sick fucking pickup, look at that single!

You do have a point. If you read my post earlier *which you should always do to make yourself NOT look like an ass* I stated that you should not race on STREETS THAT HAVE PEOPLE DRIVING ON THEM.

I also disagree with you're statement about how kids do not know how to drive at high speeds. If kids wanted to "drive fast" they should ALWAYS test themselfs at the track, and if there is no track than they could at least find a place where if they crash, they would only be hurting themselfs, and no innocent bystandards.

The people on this forum make me sick with your ignorence and you're selfishness.

I read both of your posts prior. I've read every post in this thread, so DO NOT accuse me of not reading before posting.

How can you disagree with a true statement? Then contradict yourself by having the kids learn on a PUBLIC ROAD. Whether there is "no one" on the road or not, it's inherantly dangerous. That road isn't for the assclown to drive fast because he can. It's for people like you and I that need to get somewhere.

You're 2nd paragraph makes absolutely no sense, and you contradict your previous posts on racing on the streets. Most of these kids have no formal HPDE. They haven't a clue on what to do if the car starts to understeer or oversteer. They don't know their braking and acceleration limits. They throw all this aftermarket shit on their car and go to town. They have no idea what that vehicle is capable of.

And if you ask me, YES I have attended quite a few HPDE classes, so yes, I do know what the fuck I'm doing. I know my limits, and my vehicles limits. I've been taught to have a sense on what the car is doing, and to be able to predict what the car is doing, and what it may do. You ALWAYS prepare for something unexpected.

Don't tell people to go out to the street and play Captain Suicide on a deserted street to see what their limits are. That's the most ignorant thing I've ever read on these forums. YOU of all people should know that, after the ordeal with your best friend.

I REALLY hope that that ignorance comment was not aimed at me. I have posted nothing ignorant, and I understand what goes on with the racing scene. You need an ego check and actually pay attention to what you post, before you go and contradict yourself.

nopistons13 12-11-05 01:41 PM

Do you have a problem reading? My posts are in no way contridictory. What I was saying about kids learning their cars limits on deserted streets is that if they are going to do it anyway, it is better for everyone if they do it where no one is.

For example, when I first got my car, I was very eager to test the limits of my new found car. Now where I live the tracks are only open in the summer and i got my car in october. I was driving down one of the main roads here in town and I decided to be a dumb ass and take a turn at 45mph. I spun out and almost hit a guy walking on the road. I am simply saying, don't do what I did, and what many other drivers do, and test your car on heavily used streets.

It was wrong of me to drop that ignorance comment, and for that I apologize. Also, I wasn't meaning to tell kids to just take their cars out on empty roads and go to town. That is wrong and stupid, what I was saying is if you are going to do it anyway, it is better than on crowded roads, but obviously the track is the ideal place for that type of driving.

lovintha7 12-11-05 02:12 PM

When I said contradictory, I was referring to your previous posts of saying how racing and acting like a tard on the streets was stupid. Then you said take the car so some place deserted to drive fast. Granted this is the "safest" place, but you never know what can turn the corner at the wrong time.

Usually SOLO2 autox holds driver's education all winter long. Too bad these kids are too caught up on how big of a wing they can fit on the back of their civic and what rims and body kit they want, then to realize legal racing is only $20 away. Plus the instructors are usually road course racers, and know their shit.

Oh well, enough ranting. The fucktards (idiot street racers) will never learn.

rajahFD 12-11-05 02:16 PM

the nearest track for me is 175 miles away :squint:

lovintha7 12-11-05 02:33 PM

Solo 2 normally gets a parking lot or something. Sometimes they even let them do it on an airstrip.

You are correct sir. Maybe I should have said legible as opposed to 'proper'. Still, you got to point so... :fawk:
