FD vs. Supercharged 99 mustang GT

Me: 290 whp
Him: (approx) 350-360whp
he just bought a vortech SC and will have it installed and tuned by wednesday. he's been upset over the numbers that my car put down on the dyno for a few months now and has been aiming to beat me since then. looks like it might happen. we're gonna take it to the track just to see (so dont worry about us killing anyone else on the street).

just want some opinions on the possible outcome of this race. me personnally want to at least keep up and not allow him to smoke me.

umm, you should still take him pretty easily... how good a driver are ya? if you are somewhat decent at all, there will be no trouble. 360whp in a 99 stang doesnt do much. that car weighs in almost 800 lbs more than you do. for good measure.. put in race gas for an extra 15 ponies. but i dont think you will have trouble at all with this... sounds like hes ganna be even more pissed when his supercharged mustang goes down do a lesser powered car.

without changing the tune, race gas will actually lower horsepower. On stock turbos there really isn't much point.

??? umm, i dynod 17awhp more in my audi s4 without changing tune and just adding 110 octane fuel... thats with 11.3 AFR and same conservative timing. i also notice a pretty good difference in my rx7 when i add it on the same tune. in fact, in my evo i ran 3 mph better when on 104 octane than 93 with the same tune & boost. i have seen results.

I think you should be able to take him, what are your mods?

Nghtstlkr7 10-02-06 02:31 PM

streetport, ported WG, G-force ECU, DP,MP,CB and intake... basic stuff (save for the internal work).

whats the best time you've put down in the 1/4?

Well, higher octane gasoline is harder to ignite, thus making less power. It will of course help prevent pre-ignition because of it's relatively less volatility. Typically tuners have 'race gas maps' that include more advanced/aggresive timing to take advantage of the race gas.

If you search for my dyno vid thread, you'll see that I made 366 at 13.5 psi, then let the car cool down and put in 10 gallons of c16. Without changing anything else, I made 361 at the same 13.5 ps boost.

^Exactly. Race gas is made for vehicles which utilize enormous amounts of boost or have rediculously high compression to reduce the possibility of preignition. Unless you've got an assload of air getting smashed in, I wouldn't worry about using race gas. Unless of course you can tinker with your boost and your timing, in which case go for it.

My boy has mild mods on his FD when he raced 05 cobra. It's right hand drive huge 3inch v-mount stock twins. Has the power FC intake full exhaust and down pipe. Boost controller so on and so forth. He got the cobra every time from a rolling start, dead start, and on the highway pulling hard each time. The cobra had all the whole shots from a dead start but not by much. The FD got him each and everytime by a car or so. You should do fine. I will post the vid.

I don't think that you will have any problems with this stang. I have yet to loose to any mustang (99+GT, 94GT,90 5.0, '03 cobra, '06 Rousch) and I am on stock seq still and a few other mods. Pushing about 12.5psi. This is all on 93 octane.
