FD vs Lightning

I am coming back from Silver Dollar today and a Ford F150 lightning starts trying to get me to race. I am betting that the numbers painted on my Windows from the races are prevoking him. We are at about 60mph and there are no cars around so I say what the hey. I crawl up to his truck bed and he guns it. I down shift to 3rd and do the same about .5 second later. I quickly pull about 8 car lengths on him. I looked as if he dropped an ancor or something. I shut it down at around 110mph and a couple of seconds later he drives by and gives a thumbs up.

Him SVT lighning with some kind of exhaust and rims.

Me: 1993 RX-7, GT35R, etc. etc.

Were the rims supercharged? If they wern't supercharged, thats probably why he lost. Rims make or break races.

I seriously doubt that the rims were supercharged. That would be an interesting technology if they were. It also had a fraternal order of police sticker. Those add lots of power.

Thats really stupid of him to race to 60+, after 60 their aerodynamics kill them.

BuujinBejiita 04-26-05 11:08 PM

My naibor has a 95 lightning with a few racing mods, he blew his tranny and just put in an allison, i drove it the other day 1>2 barks the tires(its an auto)

Are you kidding?! You do know that wheels are considered unsprung weight right? Unsprung weight has a greater effect on acceleration than weight supported by the suspension. 100 pounds of stuff in your vehicle will knock ~ a 10th of a second of your quarter mile time. Just 20 extra pounds of unsprung weight will have a MUCH greater effect. Reason being is that it takes more power to turn the heavier wheels.

A 10 second truck would be crazy to see on the highway. . . . I wonder if he is pulling 10s on street tires or on brag slicks....

10 at 124 that doesnt sound right? I would guess for him to have a higher trap.

The faster lightnings are the ones that have "altezza" style tail lights. If you beat one of those, you pretty much can kill all the other ones.

Good Kill.

off the line traction could be a factor, they produce alot of torque

855m0n0 04-29-05 08:27 AM

When I was a silver dollar several cars were running 10s with really low trap speeds. They were in the 118 range.

spinnerz, you forgot spinnerz, they add forward momentum. That means he'll probably get you mid - top end

While we're on the topic of fast trucks, anyone ever race one of the srt-10 trucks?

turbodrx7 05-01-05 07:51 AM

Theres a guy around here with a lightning that runs high 11's and he traps lower then me, he said like 114. I ran a 12.9 and trapped 116. So 10's at 124 doesn't sound wrong for one of those trucks.
